Due to the use of various different technologies, the design of this shoe is one that is favored by several individuals. Cons
  • Rather expensive

Outsole

As is customary in the design of various athletic shoes, the outsole of the Air Max 93 uses a thick layer of abrasive rubber in its design. This material provides wearers with what they need in terms of grip on and off of the basketball courts. To bolster the level of grip that is inherent in the design of the outsole of this shoe, the 93 features a tread design along the sole unit as well. Due to the 93 being designed for use as a basketball shoe, the tread works wonder to provide the wearer with functionality while the shoe is in actual use. Quick stops and driving are made much simpler of a task when these shoes are in use.

Midsole

The great thing about the design of the midsole on these shoes is that they have the visible air unit as a major part of their design. While the air unit in the heel of the shoe isn’t as large as that seen in the older model of the shoe it does still provide wearers with what they need in terms of cushioning while the shoe is in use; many have said that walking in this shoe is like walking around in a pillow. The forefoot and rest of the midsole of the shoe appear to be designed from an EVA-like foam; either way, it provides wearers with a much-needed level of cushioning and responsiveness while in use.

Upper

The upper of the 93 is a blend of various different technologies and is meant to provide wearers with what they need in terms of comfort while in use. For starters, to give the shoe a bit of structure, the forefoot and heel of the shoe are fashioned from a leather material; this material enables the shoe to provide wearers with what they need in terms of functionality and stability. The 93 features a bootie-like structure which enables it to provide a relatively snug fit to the design to the wearer’s foot while in use. In addition to the comfortable Neoprene bootie design, the sidewalls of the shoe are designed from a mesh material; this enables the shoe to provide wearers with what they need in terms of airflow while the shoe is in use.

Weight

No weight has been specified for the Nike Air Max 93 but, the design of this shoe is one that allows one to conclude that it doesn’t weigh much. The use of the air unit in the design of the heel of the shoe, as well as the mesh overlays, implies that this shoe will provide one with a relatively lightweight feel while in use.

Breathability

One of the things about having a shoe that makes use of mesh materials as well as bootie construction is that airflow is never an issue. This shoe will provide wearers with what they need in terms of comfort simply because of the materials used in the design. For instance, along with the sides of the shoe, there’s a bootie construction; this construction doesn’t run the entire length of the shoe but, due to the various other features in the shoe’s design does provide wearers with what they need in terms of airflow. This airflow is accentuated by the use of mesh in the side of the shoe; this construction allows air to flow easily through the shoe’s design and reduces the sweat that the wearer of the shoe feels while in use.

Comfort

Another great thing about having a shoe with a bootie construction is that the material is incredibly soft and manages to roll directly over the wearer’s skin; this means that it doesn’t irritate one’s foot whatsoever and allows for an incredibly comfortable feel while the shoe is in use. In addition to the shoe having a neoprene material incorporated into its design, the use of the mesh in its design allows the wearer to have what they need in terms of airflow; this, in turn, results in an added level of comfort for the wearer’s foot as well. The visible air being in the heel of the midsole also means that there is an incredibly high level of air cushioning for the heel of the wearer’s foot while the shoe is in use; this cushioning results in an incredibly high-level of support for the foot while in use.

Style

The Air Max 93 comes in various different styles and is considered an incredibly stylish piece of footwear because of its being so. Nike’s designers manage to blend the colors relatively well into the design of this shoe which allows the shoe to provide wearers with what they need in terms matching qualities while in use; this means that it is a relatively simple task for the shoe to blend with various types of clothing which is something that not many can say about the design of any particular shoe. The great thing about the shoe’s being retro is that it provides wearers with what they need in terms of style quite easily; the retro-style that they have allows the shoe to provide an even higher level of style than many of the modern shoe designs.

Durability

The outsole of the 93 is designed to provide wearers with what they need in terms of longevity and does so simply because of the fact that it’s designed from a thick cut of hardened rubber. In addition to the use of the thick rubber in the design of the outsole, the cushioning in the midsole of the shoe doesn’t compress as easily as other, softer grades of foam. The thickness of the foam in the midsole of the shoe provides wearers with a prolonged level of cushioning for the underfoot. The use of leather in the design of the upper also helps the shoe last longer than that which is normally experienced by running shoes.

Protection

In addition to the leather in the design of the upper providing wearers what they need in terms of longevity, the material also works to provide wearers with what they need in terms of protection while in use. The structure that the leather provides works very well for individuals when used on a basketball court simply because of the danger that a full-on mesh shoe design can present to an individual. In addition to this, the use of the bootie design also enables the shoe to provide a snug fit which works in tandem with the leather to provide a level of structure to the wearer of the shoe.

Responsiveness

A shoe with a visible air unit in its midsole is bound to provide one with what they need in terms of responsiveness. These shoes provide a higher than average level of bounce and energy return to the wearer of the shoe; this level of bounce is also great for an individual who would like to use the shoe for athletic purposes. In addition to the added bounce received by the visible air unit in the midsole, the use of mesh in the upper and the bootie construction means that the shoe will easily move along with the movements of the wearer’s foot.

Support

The bootie construction of the upper along with the leather overlays that are in the shoe’s design allows it to provide wearers with what they need in terms of support. The bootie construction, while being relatively responsive, provides wearers with a snug fit, hugging the sides of the feet; this snug fit is especially needed for those individuals who would like a shoe to give them what they need in terms of security both on and off of the court. The midsole and the air unit is also in place to provide wearers with a feeling of support when in use.

Terrain

While these shoes, when initially designed, were meant to be used on basketball courts, they also work relatively well on roads. This means that they have an adequate level of grip and can be considered functional for these terrains. The design of the tread in the outsole of these shoes, as mentioned in a previous section, allows wearers to have what they need in terms of grip while these shoes are in use on courts; the tread’s specially made design provides wearers with what they need in terms of functionality on said basketball court.

Price

When initially released, the price of these shoes can be said to have been relatively high. Now, a few years have gone by and the price of the shoes has dropped considerably; these shoes can be said to have fallen into a range that can be considered to be relatively affordable. For a pair of higher-end Air Max shoes, the price that these shoes go for can actually be considered relatively low. These shoes have an adequate level of functionality as well as a design that is incredibly versatile; for these reasons, the Air Max 93 is a shoe that will provide wearers with what they need in terms of value.

Traction

When it comes to the grip, the design of the Air Max 93 is one that will provide wearers with what they need. The shoe features a multi-directional tread pattern along the forefoot of the sole unit which enables the shoe to provide wearers with the grip that they need. To be a bit more specific in my description of the outsole of the 93, the heel features various pronounced rubber lining along the heel of the shoe; this enables the shoe to provide wearers with what they need in terms of stopping power; the forefoot on the other hand, makes use of blocks of rubber that help the shoe with side to side movement.

Flexibility

There are two things that should be mentioned when it comes to the Air Max 93’s ability to provide wearers with what they need in terms of flexibility. The placement of the rubber in the sole unit of the 93 allows wearers to have what they need in terms of ease of movement from this particular shoe; again, the grooves at the heel of the shoe and the blocks of rubber in the forefoot allow for an adequate range of motion respective to the placement of the material. The heel of the shoe, for instance, bends relatively easily along with the movement of the foot; the same can be said about the design of the forefoot.

Stability

The use of the leather overlays and the snug-fitting bootie in the design of this shoe allows it to provide an adequate level of stability to the wearer. The use of overlays enables the shoe to have a bit of structure and ensures that wearers experience what I like to call security in their movements. The use of the overlays in the upper of the 93 as compared to a pure-mesh sneaker makes the shoe feel much more stable during movement.

Drop

No drop has been specified for this particular shoe but, it appears that the drop is relatively insignificant.

Verdict

The design of this shoe is one that provides wearers with what they need in terms of functionality and comfort quite easily. Thankfully, Nike has re-released several of the OG designs, giving fans of the shoe what they need in terms of style and causing quite a few flashbacks. The dropping of the price of this model, coupled with the design of the shoes themselves, enables wearers to have what they need in terms of functionality from their shoes and, makes their purchase something that not many could regret.
