Saucony Kinvara 8 Reviewed & Tested for Performance Review Facts
The Saucony Kinvara 8 is a lightweight trainer that has the versatility to be worn on a variety of surfaces. It features a full-on foam sole unit that has a level of durability that gives the wearer a decent length of time before they should worry about getting a new one. Compared to the previous models of the shoe, not much has drastically changed, but there have been enough nuanced changes to make the shoe a better overall ride. One of the key changes to the shoe is the added cushioning that has been give to the shoes sole unit. This added cushioning has resulted in a more comfortable ride that can be bested only by a select few competitors in this shoes space.
The outsole on the Saucony Kinvara 8 is somewhat peculiar to be honest. The shoe features a full-on foam outsole which
cant be the best thing for the shoe’s overall durability. Asiics has included into the design of the shoe sections with blown-rubber though, which boots the shoes overall durability. The previous versions of the shoe were designed to include within it minimal rubber on the sole, which was one of the main things that held the shoe down in terms of durability. The blown rubber that has been included in certain sections of the outsole improve the shoes overall durability and traction, mainly through placement. The blown rubber is mainly present in the forefoot and hind part of the shoe, the main pars of the shoe that will be in contact with the ground; the rubber has been placed in areas that blend with the general transition of the foot, explain why the shoe doesn’t feature much of the rubber in the midsection.
The midsole of the Saucony Kinvara 8 is fashioned out of Everrun foam and makes up the majority of the sole unit on the shoe. The design of the midsole out of Everrun foam allows the shoe to maintain it’s lightweight effect while also delivering an extremely responsive ride
. The Everrun foam that was used n the design of the midsole of the 8, gives the shoe a more comfortable and smooth ride than that of previous models of the shoe; compared to that of the firmer ride given by the 7, the shoe definitely has been upgraded in this capacity.
The upper of the Saucony Kinvara 8 has been crafted from pure mesh
. The mesh that was used in the design of the shoe allows it to achieve a high level of breathability and. Another great thing about the mesh that the shoe was fashioned out of is that it also aids the shoe in weighing as little as possible. The shoe also features a seamless design which aids the shoe in delivering a great deal of comfort while in use. A big things about this line shoes is the addition of the prolock lacing system; it allows the shoe fit snugly on the wearers foot, providing both stability and comfortability while in use.
One of the best things about this model of shoe is that it is extremely lightweight.
The Saucony Kinvara 8 weighs in at a surprising 7.9 oz, making it an extremely lightweight shoe. This minimal weight that the shoe has is so because of the materials used in the design f the shoe. Materials such as the mesh used in the upper and the everrun foam used in the sole add very little weight to the overall shoe. The mesh used in the upper is a porous material and, due to it being relatively thin, is even more so than most mesh. The sole is made from a majority of Everrun foam, which as foam is known to be is also relatively porous and lightweight. The lack of heavy materials such as rubber and plastics in the design of the shoe also allows adds to the lightweight factor of the shoe.
In terms of breathability,
the Saucony Kinvara 8 still takes the cake. The shoe features a mesh upper, a material that is known for it’s overall breathability and for being porous. The lack of coverings on the shoe such as plastic overlays also allows for great deal of airflow to come into the shoe resulting in better breathability. The cut of the mesh on the shoe is also relatively thin, there is a decent amount of padding but the mesh is still relatively thin; this coupled with the fact that it is cut from mesh allows the shoe to deliver a level of air circulation that is above that of other models in the shoe’s space.
In terms of comfort, the Saucony made sure to keep the wearer’s foot in mind. The sole of the shoe is designed from Saucony’s Everrun material, a material that is known for the level of comfort that provides to the wearer’s foot
. The Everrun foam make of the sole is also above that of the previous models of the shoe; the previous models of the Saucony Kinvara were given EVA foam midsole’s, a material that is still comfortable, but is a bit more on the firm side, which resulted in fatigue of the foot. The upper being made out of mesh also allows the shoe to deliver a great deal of comfort to the wearer mainly because of its ability to conform to the shape of the user’s foot; also the upper features the Prolock lacing system which allows the shoe to deliver a great deal of comfort to the wearer by providing a snug fit in the midfoot area.
In terms of aesthetics, the Saucony Kinvara 8 isn’t necessarily bad it’s just not the most aesthetically pleasing. When it comes to running shoes
, people look for three things; comfort, durability, and weight. Asics made sure to add these things, but kind of neglected t make the shoe aesthetically pleasing at all. The shoe ha been given a somewhat minimalist design and doesn’t come in any gaudy colors, something that it has going for it.
The longevity that this shoe has is somewhat unreal, especially when one considers the materials that the shoe is made of. The sole of the shoe is fashioned from Everrun foam which is much softer than EVA foam. This being said, the foam still does a great job of keeping up during use
and maintains very well on a plethora of terrains. The shoe has been said to last for at least 300 miles without needing repair and considering the make of the shoe that is awesome. The mesh of the upper is also surprisingly durable considering that it is mesh and that it’s cut relatively thin. Asics did a great job in creating a shoe that lasts long enough for the wearer to get their full use out of the shoe.
In terms of protection, the shoe doesn’t really have much. The upper of the shoe is fashioned from full-on mesh with very minimal overlays.
The lack of overlays on the upper mean that the shoe doesn’t really provide much to the wearer that will be able to give them the security necessary to ward of any of the outside objects that may come into contact with their foot. The sole of the shoe, on the other hand is relatively thick which allows the shoe to be able to handle the ground and protects e wearer’s foot from the entry of any unwanted advances by outside objects. Not the best set up, but it works well enough for the user.
The everrun make of the sole unit on the shoe gives it a great deal in terms of responsiveness.
Everrun is known for its ability to provide a pleasurable overall ride and for the smoothness with which the foot transition from the heel-to-toe areas on the shoe. On top of this, the Everrun is also known for its ability to conform to the movements of the user’s foot also resulting in smoother, snappier overall movements. The mesh make of the upper on the shoe also enables it to move along with the foot resulting in almost zero-lag while the shoe is worn; this is also boosted by the shoes overall lightweight design. Overall, the shoe is great in terms of overall responsiveness.
The shoe provides a decent level of support to the wearer, mainly because of the sole unit and the lacing system that the shoe is equipped with. The sole unit is a bit more on the neutral side, meaning that it provides support for those runners who have neutral arches on the feet. The level of cushioning that is present cup of the shoe allows for a decent level of support in that general area as well. On top of these things, the lacing system gives a level of support and security that isn’t found on other shoes, mainly because of it’s ability to snugly secure the midfoot area of the shoe.
In terms of terrain capabilities, the fact that this shoe leans a bit more to the cross-trainer side allows the shoe to be able to handle a variety of terrains with ease. The Everrun sole unit is very great in the fact that it I able to actually handle a plethora of terrains with minimal wear. The addition of the blown plastic on certain areas of the sole unit gives it an even greater amount of capabilities than before because of the nature of the material itself. Overall, the shoe is very versatile in respect to the types and number of surfaces that it can be worn on, meaning that the wearer will be getting a great level of value if they are looking for a he with this ability.
In terms of price, the Saucony Kinvara 8 remains on the lower end of the spectrum. The shoe doesn’t make that big of an impact on the seller’s pockets. The shoe is well-crafted but the materials that are used in the creation of the shoe aren’t of the highest quality. This doesn’t take away from the shoe’s overall durability, but it does explain the price of the shoe. On top of this, the doesn’t really feature much in terms of overall technology usage; it’s pretty basic when it comes to the sole unit and the upper of the shoe. Despite these things, the shoe does function well and will last the wearer for a nice length of time, giving it a decent value.
The grip that is achieved by this shoe is somewhat amazing. Asics addition of the rubber in the select areas of the shoe allow it to be able to function on a much higher level than its predecessors; the shoe has a full-on foam sole, but in the forefoot and the heel areas, the shoe has been given blown-plastic insertions which aid in the transitions of the shoe and the overall grip provided while the shoe is being worn.
Asics has also done an amazing job in providing a shoe that allows for decent level of range of movement. The upper on the Saucony Kinvara 8 is fashioned from mesh which is a material that is known for it’s ability to flex with the movements of the user’s foot while also being able to retain its overall form. One thing that should be mentioned about the upper on the shoe is that the addition of the prolock strapping somewhat takes away from the natural movement of the user’s foot. Not the worst thing, but it must be mentioned. On top of this, the sole unit of the shoe is made from full-on foam which is also a material that enables the shoe to be able to attain a higher level of flex than that of other shoe’s in it’s price range and caliber.
The sole unit and the lacing system on the shoe enable the Saucony Kinvara 8 to be able to provide a level of stability above that of other shoes. The lacing system secures the midfoot section of the user’s foot, giving the wearer a sense of security and sure-ness in footing that wouldn’t be achieved otherwise. The sole unit does the same thing by also providing enough width for the user to have a secure footing while the shoe is in use.
The drop on the Saucony Kinvara 8 is an astonishing 4mm. The minimal heel-to-toe ratio on the shoe improves the overall transition provided by the shoe and allows for a better overall ride for the wearer. This coupled with the grip achieved by the shoe makes the Saucony Kinvara 8 a beast in terms of the overall ride of the shoe.
• ProLock lacing system
• Everrun sole unit
• Blown plastic insertions to improve the grip
• Minimal heel-to-toe ration
All in all, Asics did a fine job improving the Kinvara line of shoes. The plastic insertions in the sole unit allow for better longevity and improved traction; this coupled with the shoes’ minimal weight allows for an amazing cross-trainer. Also, one must not forget the shoe’s low price; when the capabilities and the functionality of he shoe are considered, it provides an amazing level of value.
