  • Great fitĀ
  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Supportive and stable
Cons
  • Steep price tag
  • Lack of color options

Upper

The uppers of the ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers are made out of jacquard mesh which is great because it can hold its shape better than those made out of standard mesh, but it is still going to help lock your foot in place and offer a phenomenal amount of ventilation. By allowing air to flow into the foot chamber you are going to help ensure that your feet are going to stay cool and dry all day long, promoting a more comfortable experience and a healthier foot.

Additionally, the uppers have SPEVAFoam 45 Lasting which is what gives the shoes their final shape and helps it retain it. It is going to help make sure that they outsole stays securely attached to the uppers so you do not have to worry about durability issues. This foam gives you a little bit of extra protection thanks to its ability to help with shock absorption.

The uppers have a seamless construction to help give you a more comfortable experience while you are out and about. The lack of traditional stitching and seams inside the shoes gives you a reduced risk of irritating rubbing and blisters, which is always nice. Finishing off the uppers is a standard lacing system with a guidance loop on the tongue of the shoes.

Midsole

The midsole of these sneakers is made out of Flytefoam Lyte. This is going to provide you with a decent amount of underfoot cushioning while at the same time keeping some of the weight off the shoes since it is Asics lightest foam to date. The midsole also features SPEVA Foam which is a blend of standard EVA foam and the materials that you would find in a rubber ball. This is going to help make sure that the midsole holds its shape and gives you a better running experience. Essentially, the SPEVA foam and Flytefoam Lyte are working together to give you an amazing underfoot experience and a highly energetic and responsive run.

When you are running your feet will sink down into the foam of these sneakers, as soon as your foot starts to come back up from your step the foam is going to bounce right back into its original shape, propelling you forward into your next step. You are not going to have to use as much power to launch yourself forward, allowing you to save some of your energy. This is called your energy return. Runners love shoes with a high energy return because it means that they can spend a little less effort with each step and focus their energy on running faster and longer, giving themselves a bit of an advantage while they are on the go.

The midsoles of these shoes feature Gel Technology located in the front and backs of the shoes. These are little gel pads that are added to give you a little extra cushioning for a more comfortable underfoot feeling. Additionally, they are going to help with some of the shock absorptions, keeping a good part of that impact off of your joints.

Outsole

The outsole of these sneakers is made using Asics High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) to help ensure the soles are not going to have any durability issues, they are designed to take quite the beating. The AHAR is reserved for use in the high wear areas of your sole so you can ensure they are not going to the be the first to start wearing down. By only using this rubber sparingly the shoes are still able to keep some of the weight down and they are able to promote flexibility while still being able to maintain their durability.

Installed in the heel part of the outsole is a midsole sponge, making it about 10 mm higher on the back of the shoes. This is going to help reduce some of the load on your legs, as well as reducing some of the impacts on your knees. This is why these are also one of the best running shoes for knee pain. The midsole sponge is designed to help guide the bending form of your legs while you are on the go which can help reduce the risk of certain injuries.

Stability

The ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 shoes offer a lot of great stability features that customers adore. There are not quite enough for these to actually be considered a stability shoe, but they are great for those who mild pronation issues or possibly some runners who only pronate in one foot and not the other. They were created with the Impact Guidance System (IGS) in mind, connecting all of the shoes features together to help ensure you get a natural and intuitive feel while you are wearing them. It smooths the transition from each phase of the running cycle giving you a smoother and more natural experience while you are running.

If you are one of the thousands of runners around the work who has pronation problems then you are in luck, as these shoes feature the Dynamic DuoMax support system which is made out of a firm sponge and located inside of the midsole. The sponge is located on the inner part of the foot, where overpronation occurs, it acts almost like a small wedge to help raise up that part of your foot. It will help prevent the overpronation (rolling your feet inward) without adding a lot of weight to the sneakers.

Finally, these shoes feature Guidance Line technology and Guidance Trusstic System Technology which work together to help enhance your gait efficiency as well as the structure of the midfoot.

Weight

When it comes to your running shoes you are going to want to find something that is as light as possible so you do not have to feel like your shoes are weighing you down or holding you back, especially if you are running long distances or running for speed. In the case of the ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers, you can expect them to weigh a little more than your typical running shoes, but that is mostly because of the stability features that are added. Even though they did a lot to ensure the weight stays fairly low on these shoes they still come it just a little above the average. With a weight of 10.2 ounces (290 grams) on average, they are just a little heavier than your average shoe but considering the great features, they offer the extra fraction of an ounce seems worth it.

Durability

When it comes to purchasing your running shoes you are going to want to find something that is going to last, as you do not want to have to worry about replacing them frequently. Running shoes can get a bit pricey so you want to make sure that you get a great quality product the first time so you do not have to worry about spending your money again on a new pair prematurely. That being said, the ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers seem to have a decent amount of durability to them. They are very well constructed and are made out of good quality materials. The uppers are made with SPEVAFoam to help ensure they are not going to tear easily and also to ensure they are going to stay connected to the outsole so you will not have to worry about them falling apart at the seams. Additionally, the outsole is designed with AHAR strategically placed on high wear areas so they are going to last significantly longer. Premature wear and tear is not something that you should have to worry about when it comes to these sneakers.

Comfort

Comfort is important when it comes to anything that you are going to be putting on your feet. You do not want your feet to hate you by the end of a long day or a particularly hard workout and that is not something that you are going to have to worry about with these sneakers. They are designed to keep your feet happy all day long. There is a decent amount of underfoot cushioning thanks to the midsole and the gel pads located a the rear and forefoot areas. The Guidance Lines are going to help with your gait and any pronation problems you might have, giving you a more comfortable overall experience.

It is not just the underfoot experience that is comfortable, however. The seamless construction greatly increases your comfort level by drastically reducing the risk of discomfort. Since the uppers are designed to not have irritating seams that you might find on some other sneakers on the market, you are not going to have to worry about your skin rubbing up on them causing blisters, which is always very much appreciated.

Fit

When it comes to your shoes you are going to want to make sure that you find something that is going to fit you properly. You are going to want the ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers to fit you snugly, but not too tight that they hurt. Customers state that these shoes are running true to size so that should help take a lot of the guesswork out of deciding what size you should choose. If you are unsure or you just want to double check your size, you can always consult Asics sizing chart to help you make your decision. These sneakers are available in wide sizes in both men's and women's so if you have wider feet then you are in luck.

Style

The ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers have a simple look to them, they do not really stand out in a crown and some customers can really appreciate that about them. They are only available in a couple of color options. If you are purchasing them in the men's size you can only get them in black and hazard green. The women's version is only available in black and baked pink.

Some customers would like to see more color options available, as they are not too happy with the ones offered to them right now. Most, however, do not care too much about what color they are, as they are an all-around good pair of shoes.

Support

Support is extremely important in your shoes. You want to make sure that you find something that is going to give you an adequate amount of support for the task at hand. Since the ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 sneakers were designed for running, they are going to give the support you need for those who are on the run.

The traditional lacing system ensures that you get a locked in fit, securing your foot inside of the shoes. You will not have to worry about your feet sliding around inside the sneakers, or worse, falling out of it completely. As long as you get the proper fit you will get all the support you need.

Bottom Line

If you are in the market for an all around great pair of running shoes then you have come to the right place. These sneakers might not be considered stability shoes but they are going to offer you a decent amount of stability features that you will be able to take advantage off, whether you are a pronator or not. The great looking and even better feeling sneakers are designed to last so you are not going to have to worry about replacing your sneakers for a while. The ASICS Gel-Pursue 5 shoes are going to be a great addition to your running gear.
