WalkJogRun Running Routes iPhone Application
Exercise routes where you are.
Introducing the first iPhone and iPod Touch application dedicated to finding exercise routes from the premiere route mapping site, WalkJogRun.net. We utilize the iPhone and iPod Touch’s built-in location services to find routes where you are. Also, if you're a member of the site with your own routes, the app allows you to see them in one convenient place. WalkJogRun boasts over 400,000 routes worldwide created by people just like you!

When you first launch the WalkJogRun iPhone app, you'll see a loading screen that will use the built-in location services to try and find where you are in the world.
When you're ready, touch anywhere on the screen to continue to the map and load the exercise routes nearest to you.

This screen is new to version 2 of the app. Here you'll see your location on a map (as indicated by the red pin). Most of the time the accuracy is pretty spot on, but in cases where it's a little off, you can tap and hold the pin to move the it to another location.
When you're satisfied with your location, tap the blue arrow to show the nearest routes to the pin's location.
We've also added the ability to search for a location - you can enter an address, a zip code, city name or even a landmark. (more on that below)

The "Routes" screen shows 2 groups - All Distances and Routes by Distance.
Touching "All Distances" will show you any route, regardless of length, near your current location.
Touching any of the other distances will show you routes that are that exact distance - perfect for those of us that are on a strict training plan.

This is a sample route list screen. In this case, we've touched "2 mile routes" so we will see routes that are between 2 and 2.9 miles in length.
Each item in the list shows the title of the route as given by the route creator, the route's distance (in miles and km) and how far the starting point of the run is from your current location (shown here in yards).

Touching a route will then load that specific route on a map. New to version 2 is an embedded map view which means you can now use the map in WalkJogRun Routes just like you do in the iPhone's native Maps application. Double-tap to zoom in; pinch two fingers together to zoom out, spread two fingers to zoom in; tap and hold to pan around the map.
The map now also includes buttons in the upper right to switch between Map, Satellite and Hybrid views. For those of you walk jog running (har har) in remote areas or on paths, the Satellite view should be a welcome addition!
Version 2 also brings a completely new way for us to draw routes on the map. You will never again see the dreaded "Route to detailed to display" error again. The <S> and <F> pins show the route's Start and Finish points, and if you're viewing routes in your immediate area, you should see the "blue blip" which represents where YOU currently are. Pretty cool.

Touching the "Details" button in the upper-right of the screen will bring you to this screen which offers more details for this specific route.
Here you can touch the route creator's name to see other routes created by the same person.
You can also touch the "calories" row to change your current weight to see how many calories you would most likely burn when running this route. Touching the "time" row will allow you to change your pace.

To change your weight, just spin the tumblers until your current weight is shown above. Then tap the "Back" button to see the calories update with a new estimate.

Changing your pace is exactly the same - spin the tumblers until your pace is shown above.

If you've already got an account on WalkJogRun (which is completely free!), touch the "Login" button at the bottom of the screen.
When you log in, this button will change to "My Routes" and show you a listing of all the routes you've created on the site - regardless of where they are in the world.

The About screen (new to version 2) gives you the opportunity to share the app with your friends on Facebook and Twitter and contact us directly from the app.
This screen also show you the exact version number of the app that you're running which will be helpful in helping us track down and squash any bugs in the code.

See who's running in London.
