Editor’s Conclusion
What does adventure mean to you? To me, adventure is the time where you can push your body past its confines and towards limits you never thought were reachable. Adventures are pretty awesome goals to give yourself and when you're going on an adventure, you need the right equipment to assist you on your journey. Footwear is one of the primary accessories.

When adventure strikes in my household, or if we're planning an epic trail hike, maybe a mountain hike or an uncharted walk, I turn to Salomon. This trustworthy, reputable brand has never done me wrong.

The Salomon OUTline GTX is not only an incredibly neat pair of shoes to look at, they are made for performance. They're stylish, sleek, and have all the benefits of a running shoe, but with further traction to help along any hiking trail.

Key Features

Technologies

Whenever I do a review, it always makes my job much easier when I like the brand and the style of hiking shoes that I am writing about. Now the Salomon OUTline hiking shoes have got some epic technologies that make it a real competitor in its field.

Contagrip MD

Nothing is more important than having a healthy amount of traction on the outsole. Without it, you run the risk of slipping and causing yourself injury. The Salomon OUTline feature the most durable material meaning they will wear well and the 5mm lugs are great for both wet and dry surfaces.

EVA Midsole

EnergyCell technology in the midsole of the shoe provides not only a foam cushion for the foot but also shock absorption. It helps from the pounding your feet can encounter when hiking up mountains or off the beaten track.

OrthoLite Insole

What's worse than uncomfortable inners when you're out walking? The Salomon OUTline GTX have OrthoLite Insoles, brilliant for breathability, cushioning, and durability.

Anti-Debris Mesh

With the benefit of anti-debris mesh between the foot and the footbed, you aren't going to be bothered by any unwanted debris harboring in.

Flat Laces

Another asset the OUTline shoe features is the flat laces providing a better fit and giving valued support when needed. They also reduce points over the instep.

Design

Salomon, although robust, is nothing if not stylish. They are designed with the best quality materials and have the greatness of a running shoe - light, durable, comfortable, and performance-wise, but they have added features to bring them up to spec for a hiking shoe too.

One thing that has always attracted me to Salomon footwear is the outsole. It has a real depth in it that is great for the grip you want.

I always noticed the lugs; I've not seen many shoes that have the same type of outsole. They really do offer the BEST traction and stability that any hiker requires.

The textile uppers are brilliant for protection and durability, not forgetting they have a nice look about them. The stitch-free upper construction also gives a smooth, glove-like feel and finish to the shoe.

Made to look like a trainer but with the adaptions needed for a hiking shoe, they are lightweight and ideal for hiking trails, not weighing down on your legs.

Comparison to Similar Hiking Shoes

If you’re not sold on the Salomon’s, then perhaps the following two very similar options may be of interest to you.

KEEN Terradora 2 Vent – Another stylish and comfortable hiking shoe that is a great competitor in its field. The KEEN Terradora has a KEEN ALL-TERRAIN outsole, perfect for the trail and a stable grip on wet and dry surfaces. They also have breathable mesh lining and the EVA sole features - providing comfort, cushioning, and ventilation. Price-wise, they are slightly cheaper than the Salomon OUTline GTX.

Merrell Siren Edge 3 – A little quirkier in style and much cheaper, the Merrell Siren Edge 3 are durable, breathable, and have an anti-slip outsole, great for the trails. They also benefit from an air-circulation insole, perfect to stop your feet from feeling too confined and uncomfortable.

Verdict

I can’t recommend the Salomon brand enough. Even if the OUTline isn’t the style you like, I would urge you to look at alternative styles, purely because the performance you get from this brand is impeccable.

The OUTline hiking shoe is well equipped to handle trials and assist you on your adventures. These will provide you with great comfort and even better traction to help keep you on your feet and the trail.

The OUTline are quality and worth the money you pay for them and will be a shoe that will last you years.
