Key Features

Technologies

ADV-C 4D Chassis

The chassis technology provides extra support to the heel and targets sensitive spots on the foot, even on the toughest terrain. It will be a great help if you're carrying any heavy weight and will help with the fatigue you will feel after a long hike. It is also great for further stability.

Contagrip TD

If you have ever read any of my other reviews, you will know that traction is a massively important feature in my book. The Salomon Quest 4 GTX is blessed with excellent Contragip, providing the best traction on wet, dry, and rough terrain. The lugs are deep and therefore offer a more cushioned but sturdy step.

GORE-TEX

The GORE-TEX membrane is perfect for any hiking boot, it gives cushioning to the underneath of the foot and is breathable. It's a valuable asset for any backpacker's boots.

SensiFit

SensiFit is a great added technology that the Salomon Quest 4 GTX boots boast. It cradles the foot giving it security, stability, and basically a great big hug.

Any walker/hiker will know the value a tongue can provide on your boots. The Salomon Guest 4’s has a tongue that is connected to the upper on both sides, helping keep any debris out of the boot.

Design

I've always been a fan of the Salomon brand and of the designs they have for their hiking boots and running shoes.

The Quest 4 GTX is a well-protected, sturdy boot. It is enclosed with strong textile uppers to make sure your feet are stable and given the best support. The outsole exhibits a 12mm drop and the lugs add further definition to the traction you can expect. They are an adventure pro boot and one I would trust happily to take care of my feet.

They also have a wrap-around mud guard, especially important for when you may encounter terrain that is uneven and may throw a few bits of debris your way.

Price

When it comes to price, I didn't flinch when I saw the Quest 4 GTX were at the higher end of the spectrum. If you’re serious about your hiking, then the price won’t be one of the priority features you are looking at.

Comparison to Similar Hiking Boots

If the Salomon Quest 4 GTX is not something that fits your style or what you are looking for, then we suggest the following models.

Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid GTX – These boots benefit from features that will keep your feet dry and comfortable and the Contagrip outsole will provide great traction. In comparison to the Quest 4 GTX, this model is lighter and a great choice for technical trails.

ROCKROOSTER Hiking Boots – These boots are more of a sneaker style rather than a boot, so if you want a less bulky and shorter boot, then this could be a viable option for you. They boast a memory foam insole giving great cushioning to the foot. Made from suede and leather, they are a durable and flexible model. Most importantly, this option is very affordable.

Verdict

I do not doubt that the Salomon Quest 4 GTX will be a purchase that you don't regret. These hiking boots feature great technology and will give you a great ride.

They are made for long expeditions, even ground and tough terrain. Just be mindful that their predecessors have been known to be just as good, but I very much promote the Salomon Quest 4 GTX.
