La Sportiva TX5

Our Conclusion
If you love to hike, like me, you will be ever so aware of the importance of picking the right hiking boots/shoes to facilitate you on your hikes. Hiking footwear needs to be robust, protective, supportive, and provide excellent grip.

With just short of a century of experience in crafting boots, La Sportiva is well and truly knowledgeable about its craft. To give you a brief idea of the expertise this brand carries, a little fact you may not know is that founder, Narciso Delladio provided Italy's soldiers with custom mountaineering boots through World War II. Pretty neat, right?

The TX5 hiking shoe is begging to be put through its paces and is ready for action. Made to offer a comfortable, breathable, and waterproof hiking experience, these shoes are a solid option.

Benefiting from an Ortholite footbed, impact brake system, and Vibram Megagrip outsole, they offer a great number of technologies to aid your journey.

This boot does suffer from having a seam on the hallux valgus spot, which can cause discomfort, so that's something to look out for, but the uppers offer great flexibility and support for your feet.

Nubuck Leather Uppers

Nubuck leather is a really great material for uppers. It's perfectly flexible which allows your feet to move in the direction of the strides they are taking and the ground beneath them. It also increases the overall comfort.

This soft, yet durable material is just the perfect option for hiking shoes.

GORE-TEX

GORE-TEX membrane is such a great feature for hiking shoes, purely as it's durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It helps keep the moisture out while allowing the foot to breathe.

Any hiker will know the joy you will feel when the boots you wear have a GORE-TEX membrane and your feet don't feel like they are being suffocated.

Ortholite Footbed

The 4mm Ortholite footbed is ideal for regulating the foot's temperature and adding that bit of comfort, whilst hugging your foot and offering a more sock-like feel.

Vibram Megagrip Outsole

Vibram Megagrip is an exceptionally great compound for hiking. It offers great traction and grip and will be perfect for both wet and dry ground.

It's great for mixed terrain and providing shock absorption.

A Few Other Worthy Mentions

The low-impact brake system that the TX5 has is an innovative system that reduces negative ground impact. The direction of the lugs offers maximum impact absorption. We often think all too much about going uphill but never consider the impact of downhill - well this system does that for you.

I've mentioned the Vibram outsole but another bonus with this outsole is the shock absorbent tip that this shoe benefits from - perfect for when you come into contact with that uneven ground that will, no doubt, try and trip you up.

Design

La Sportiva always makes edgy-looking footwear, especially the mountain ranges. The TX5 is a hiking shoe that makes a statement - it begs for adventure and offers all the protection your feet will want on any trail.

Boasting features that will aid you in your adventures and enhance your performance, the TX5 is available in 4 different colors, each appealing and attractive.

This model is versatile in its approach and look.

Price

The price for the TX5 Low GTX is high; however, it's inarguable that with quality comes a higher price tag.
Comparison to Similar Hiking Shoes
Columbia Crestwood Waterproof Hiking Boot - Another robust hiking boot, the Crestwood has an Omni-Tech waterproof membrane, Techlite stone shield, Techlite midsole, and Nonmarking Omni-Grip rubber, all features that make this boot a great option. It is also a fraction of the price of the TX5!

Lowa Renegade GTX Lo - From one extreme to the other, the Lowa Renegade is at the top end of the price scale, but with nubuck leather, GORE-TEX lining, and a PU Monowrap frame, I'm not entirely surprised. These boots have features such as a climate control footbed, Vibram Evo Trac outsole, and a full-length medium stabilizer to help you on your journey. They are a badass hiking boot and an attractive one at that.
Verdict
To sum up this review in a nutshell, I would argue that the La Sportiva TX5 is an extremely well-equipped hiking shoe that will give you a great ride.

The only concern you may have is the stitch that rests along that specific line of bone, other than that, they really are a great choice.
