Key Features

Durability

Featuring a Contagrip W outsole for extreme traction on both wet and dry surfaces and to maintain adhesion in freezing temperatures, the Winter Quest boots are the ultimate winter hiking boot.

They're armed with a water repellent treatment to enhance the wear you get out of them and the PU coated leather is the perfect long-lasting material as well as being strong.

The protective mudguard also offers a protective shield around the foot, perfect for passing through less gracious terrain.

The ADV - C chassis offers extra support around the heel, guiding the foot and helping reduce muscle fatigue.

Design

The exterior of these boots is strong and sturdy, they protect the foot well and offer a warm construction for your feet to enjoy while they stride up a mountain-side.

The padded collar adds comfort to your ankle and the faux fur delivers comfort, breathability, and warmth. It also adds that cozy feel to your boots. The faux fur lining is the perfect material for winter weather, it will give you that snug but flexible feel.

The EnergyCell EVA foam is a great feature that these boots possess. It allows for shock absorption and offers a higher performance responsive feel. The 4mm layer of EVA foam offers increased insulation along with a soft cover.

The gusseted tongue is perfect for keeping debris out and is connected to the uppers on both sides, it keeps the tongue centered and helps keep warmth in, as well as a comfortable top layer for the foot.

The CS (ClimaSalomon) Waterproof membrane is perfect for boots that may enter snow and wetter conditions. It will keep the foot dry without being suffocating and won't allow moisture to enter.

The heel stack height measures 20mm, meaning your feet won't feel the uneven/uncomfortable ground you will feel beneath you, and instead your foot will have the pleasure of a more cushioned ride. The forefoot stack height is half of the heel stack which offers a nice natural decline from the heel to the toe for a better heel-to-toe transition.

Use

If you’re still reading, then you’ll be aware by now that these hiking shoes are for winter, they would not be suited for summer due to the amount of warmth they offer.

The strong uppers are made for vigorous and harsh terrain, The outsole demands terrain that will test it and break boundaries.

If you are going to purchase these boots, then be sure you will use them for heavy-duty trails and hikes. They wouldn't be used to their full purpose otherwise.

Comparison to Similar Winter Shoes

Baffin Hike Winter Boots - These boots are both versatile and performance-worthy of their price tag. Featuring a mid-hike construction and waterproof synthetic and textile uppers, they are protecting and durable. The polar rubber outsole offers excellent traction and grip and the TPU plate and tendon guard are the perfect protection you need.

Sorel Whitney II Short Lace Boots - These are a more stylish boot that would pair well with jeans and other casual outfits. With waterproof nylon uppers, a rubber outsole, and a removable padded footbed, these boots would also do you well on lighter hikes. Slightly less protection than the former two, I would suggest these boots are a more casual/short hiking boot.

Verdict

Salomon is one of the best brands out there when it comes to outdoor/sports gear and I have never been disappointed with any shoe I have bought from them.

The Salomon Quest boots offer everything you need to enjoy hiking in harsh and colder temperatures.

Each of the features that we have looked at enhances these boots. They are versatile, flexible, and light. I love these boots and don't think you will find a better boot than one crafted by Salomon.
