Walk to Run is a 16-week training program for new runners, or runners coming back from injury. We meet every Saturday and work out as a group. Trainees then repeat the workout at least twice the foillowing week on their own.
Walk to run starts with one mile of walking, and peaks at four miles of walking, during each workout. We then introduce "run breaks" or varying duration, and then lengthen the duration of the run breaks. By the end of the 16 weeks, trainees are running 4 minutes/walking one minute, for a total distance of 4 miles, during each workout. Trainees complete the training by participating in a 5K race in late March or in April.
