Whether you’re a serious athlete or runner, or you just want to keep better track of your body composition and weight, and/or make some lifestyle changes, you could benefit greatly from a smart scale. Smart scales can also come in handy when you’re trying to lose weight, build muscle, or keep track of your nutrition and patterns.

The Body+ scale from Withings uses WiFi and/or Bluetooth to transfer all of the results from the scale to the Health Mate app on your phone. All you have to do is step onto the scale and it will do the rest for you, except doing the work to get you healthy. You have to do that part. It is compatible with over one hundred other fitness and health apps so that you can sync your data from MyFitnessPal and others.

This scale measures weight, body water, and fat percentage, and bone and muscle mass. Information for as many as eight users can be stored and synced automatically to your app. When you step on, it recognizes which user you are and sends the stats to the correct account. There are settings to weigh specifically during pregnancy and for small children. Your whole family can benefit from all this scale has to offer.

Eric Carreel and Cedric Hutchings founded Withings in 2008. The very first product that they offered was a connected body scale, which was launched in 2009. Ventech donated three point eight million dollars to Withings in 2010 in or to assist in financing the next two products’ development.

In January of 2011, the company announced what their next products were to be. The first being a monitor for blood pressure. What made this blood pressure monitor special was that it could be connected to your smartphone, showing your daily/weekly/monthly results so that you can track your health. The other product was a baby monitor that could be used with smartphones and other compatible devices to make it more convenient to watch your baby.

In 2013, Idinvest Partners, Vantech, Bpifrance, and 360 Capital Partners donated another thirty million dollars. In 2014, Withings made it possible to send data straight from your weight scale to your smartphone or other compatible devices, and track your results so that you can make improvements.

When Withings partnered with MyFitnessPal in 2015, the two companies revealed that a study was done that showed people are up to seven times more likely to successfully lose weight when committed to tracking their caloric intake and output. When you connect your Health Mate account with your MyFitnessPal account, it is easy to look at your nutritional data and how it relates to your diet and how much exercise you are getting vs. how much you need to meet your goals.

The Body+ scale monitors your weight (in kg, lb, or st), your water percentage, fat percentage, bone mass, and muscle mass. The weight measurement is accurate to 100 grams.

When it comes to tracking your weight, you should make a habit of it. Routinely checking your weight can be highly motivational in weight loss efforts and can help keep you on track. You can use your weight to determine how you’re coming along and use that to adjust your daily living as necessary.

The reason you want to keep an eye on your fat percentage is that, if you have too much fat, it can result in health problems you don’t want to deal with. If you eat a lot of fatty meat and dairy products (saturated fat), you could be raising your cholesterol levels without even knowing it. High cholesterol means more risk for heart disease.

You want to know your body water percentage because it is what helps your body regulate its’ temperature, moisturize your skin, and strengthen muscles. There are many other benefits of having enough water in your body. The average body has fifty percent water. This amount varies by gender and age and other factors.

Your bone content should typically be three to five percent. It’s smart to keep an eye on this number because bone mass is susceptible to slowly declining over time. Knowing your muscle mass is handy because this is what helps your body burn energy and calories. This will also raise your metabolism, helping you lose weight.

Some people may look at these scales and think that it’s pointless to use yet another account for tracking health-related information. However, it doesn’t have to be an additional app. You can sync it with your other apps to keep your information organized and easily accessible at all times.

The Body+ scale is highly compatible with many, many apps such as Fitbit, Google Fit, and Apple Health. Your wifi network must be WPA/WPA2WEP. The Health Mate app is compatible with iPhone and Android. The iPhone must be a 4S or more recent and must have iOS 8 or newer. The Android must have software of 5.0 or higher. Must have WiFi or mobile data for the app to work properly.
Nutrition Tracking

Nutrition Tracking

Thanks to all of the metrics recorded by the scale, along with all of the benefits of the Health Mate app, you can easily use the information you gather to help you set and achieve goals as far as your nutrition and weight. You can give yourself a calorie cap for the day and track what you put into your body. When you set goals and work to reach them, you should gain motivation as you go and be able to push farther than you thought you could.

People who keep track of their caloric intake and output are much more likely to be successful with their weight loss or nutrition goals because they are always mindful of what they’re putting into their bodies. There isn’t better motivation than some healthy competition and there is no better competition than yourself.

Every single time you weigh-in on your scale, the results are automatically synced to your Health Mate account via either your Bluetooth or WiFi connection. You can view your history and your results by day/week/month in order to recognize your patterns and what seems to work or not work for you specifically. This will help you to stay accountable for yourself and to practice a healthier lifestyle.

Weight Loss Companion

Weight is something that people have always been worried about, and most likely always will be worried about, especially in modern society. Eyes are on everyone all the time. Ads and models are plastered everything you go and it is almost impossible anymore to see women that aren’t photoshopped or touched up somehow. And they’re always skinny. But don’t commit to losing weight just to please society, do it for yourself and your health and happiness.

By simply checking your weight every day, you are much more likely to be successful when trying to lose weight. You’re actually up to four times more likely than those who attempt to lose their weight without checking the scales as often, or sometimes at all. If you’re interested in building up your muscle mass after losing some fat, there is a program called Better Body on the Health Mate app that will teach you all about body composition and show you more ways that you can lose fat.

Everyone knows that when you’re pregnant, everyone is concerned about your weight. Are you gaining enough? Are you gaining it quick enough? Is your belly on track with your weeks of pregnancy? The app has a Pregnancy Tracker feature that will help you follow your weight gain throughout the pregnancy to make sure that you are staying on track with the desired scale. The scale can even be used once the baby is born to track their weight as well. Just hold them and step on.

You can set goals for how many steps you want to take in a day or week as well as how much you want to get accomplished as far as physical activity. Whether you want to encourage yourself to run three times a week or hit the gym every other day, you can have your app send you a reminder and every time you complete your goals, you’ll get rewards.

The Health Mate app even lets you connect your account with friends and family so that you can be even more inspired to get active and stay active. Friendly competition is a fantastic motivator. When you connect with others, you get ranked and rewarded when you make progress. You can see each other’s badges too. Bottom Line

Bottom Line

There are many, many ways that you can benefit from the investment of a smart scale. Whether you’re an active and healthy person, somebody who just wants to keep track of their metrics for health monitoring, or somebody who is serious about getting in shape and becoming healthier, you can optimize your results with a smart scale.

Thanks to the incredible advances in technology, and the help of the Health Mate app, tracking your metrics, nutrition, and exercise is easier than ever. Don’t worry about memorizing any numbers or figuring up any math. You don’t need to write anything down, either. All you have to do is download the app to your phone or other compatible devices, connect it to the scale via WiFi or Bluetooth (check for device compatibility), and step on the scale. The whole family (or roommates) can be registered with the scale, and it will automatically know which user is stepping on and which account to send the results to.

A great bonus feature you can take advantage of is having Alexa built-in. You can step onto the scale first thing in the morning and receive the weather forecast for your town. Alexa will also be able to feed you stats regarding your daily/weekly/monthly achievements and statistics. The bells and whistles aren’t the most important thing. But it’s nice to have both functionality and novelty.
