Founded in California by two Australian surfers, the Ugg boot had a familiar but very interesting journey to the brand that it is today. Modeled after the famous Australian Ugg boot design, the Ugg Boot was not an instant success.

After a 200.00 dollar investment from family and friends of the founders, Ugg Imports was founded and in the first season of business, they sold only 28 pairs of boots. But just like in any business, you have to be persistent.

But, the company really gained international attention after the boots were worn by the U.S. Olympic team in the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. Back In 2003, the boots were included on the Oprah segment “Oprah’s Favorite Things and she even purchased over 350 shoes for her staff and audience. The Ugg boot was the trendy item that every man and woman purchased in the early 2000s but after the initial media storm that surrounded these boots, they’ve grown to be one of the most sought after comfy shoe that everybody has to own. A real must-have item if you will.

Celebrities like Leonard DiCaprio and Blake Lively love them, but now let’s present one other item from the Ugg brand. The UGG Women’s Camilla Wedge Sandal.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros

 3 1/4" heel

1 1/4" platform

Adjustable buckle strap

Contoured footbed

Leather upper/synthetic lining and sole

Cons

No vegan option

The sandal is much heavier

Outsole

Outsole

The good old rubber outsole is here. It works well with just about any shoe, but it’s also popular with the wedges as well. And the Camilla wedge sandal is no exception. Compared to the midsole, and the rest of the shoe structure, the outsole is barely noticeable and very thin, but not only it is practical is one of the most structured reliable parts of the entire sandal. Why? Because rubber is always a good idea in a shoe. Especially in a shoe that has a high heel and platform like the Camilla sandal.
Midsole

Midsole

The midsole is a lot richer and good looking than the outsole, but is a very good looking sandal, so… For starters, the Camilla sandal has a jute-wrapped midsole. What is jute you might ask? Well, according to Wikipedia, Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads, and is one of the most affordable natural fibers in existence and it is just second to high and mighty cotton. The jute that’s wrapping the outside surface of the midsole has a nice braided pattern that just works well with the simplicity of the upper. The braided jute can be seen on the midsole and on the platform of the sandal, and it looks amazing. And speaking of the platform… The platform in one inch in height while the heel measures 3 inches. So, all together, the height of the sandal is roughly 4 inches in height. But if you thought that the platform is the only good thing in the midsole think again The midsole also has a cushioned and molded EVA footbed that offers support and a whole lot of comfort.
Upper

Upper

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Made entirely out of suede, the upper has a featured asymmetrical bow detail and an open toe silhouette at the front. The bow gives the shoes their classic elegant style, while the open toe silhouette makes it perfect for a summertime wearing. The slingback strap has an adjustable buckle closure, which makes the putting on the shoes early in the morning and taking them off your feet late in the evening a real breeze. The aforementioned bow in the upper is made out of the straps in the toe area of the shoe, and they’re intertwined to make a nice classic beautiful bow. Fixated at the front of the sandal, the bow gives the sandal a nice detailing and timeless effortless style that will become your biggest asset.
Comfort

Comfort

Every high heel benefits from a little bit of platform, and having a one-inch platform is not only beneficial, but it’s also highly demanded by every woman everywhere. But seriously, the one-inch platform in the Camilla wedge sandals makes all the difference in any shoe but with a sandal that’s 3 inches high and that has a slingback strap, the platform is a must. Luckily it works wonders in the Camilla sandal and the comfort that it provides is amazing.
Support

Support

Sure the platform offers a great deal of support too, but the cushioned and molded EVA footbed is mostly responsible for the support portion in this show. Why? Because this is a wedge type of sandal that’s particularly high and the support should come from within. The cushioned and molded EVA footbed supports the arches and distributes the weight of your body equally thus making sure the balance is just right. The support that EVA footbed gives in the Camilla sandal is invaluable and you’ll be able to feel the benefits after just 15 minutes of walking in the sandals.
Durability

Durability

Several things are responsible for the durability of this sandal, but mostly it all boils down to the selection of the materials used in the making of the wedge sandals. And the Camilla model is quite diverse in that respect, since it has rubber in the outsole, jute and molded EVA footbed in the midsole, and suede in the upper. All of them are quite fantastic materials that are known for their durability, quality, and comfort. But to say that the materials are solely responsible for the durability would be a lie. The making of the shoes is done with meticulous detailing and care that when combined, both the materials and the craftsmanship ensure that these sandals will last you for a long time.
Flexibility

Flexibility

Because of the height of the platform and the heel itself, along with the materials used in the making of the sandals, these are not the most flexible sandals in the Ugg’s long list of shoes. You can find traces of flexibility in the upper since it’s made out of suede and it has a slingback strap with an adjustable buckle, but don’t expect much flexibility from the outsole and midsole. Those two parts of the sandal are the thickest, sturdy and non-flexible parts and you’re foot won’t be able to bend with the motion of the sandal.
Stability

Stability

Maybe the Camilla sandal is lacking in flexibility, but the stability is in abundance here. Seriously. Every high heel shoe that has a platform is instantly a lot more stable, but the Camilla sandal has a one-inch high platform that just screams extra dose of stability. Oh, there’s no forgetting about the cushioned and molded EVA footbed that hugs the entire foot and offers a lot more stability, but from within the sandal. Thos things combined offer stability that’s high even for a wedge sandal, like the Camilla model. And on that subject, the wedges are known to be one of the most stable shoes in existence, even without the presence of a platform, so don’t worry. Your feet will be supported and you’ll feel stable with every step that you take.
Airflow

Airflow

Given the fact that this is an open toe silhouette sandal, the airflow is quite awesome, but the fact that it’s made out of natural ingredients like suede and jute, you just know that the airflow will be more than satisfactory in the Camilla model. So, the airflow shouldn’t be a concert for you.
Terrain

Terrain

However, the terrain should. Yes, the Camilla model is a wedge sandal which means it’s a lot more comfortable when it comes to the actual walking in it. However, the platform and the heel itself, make for the Camilla sandal to be 4 inches high so the wedge is really gods sent for the overall ability to walk in these sandals. However, that walking should be done on terrain that’s more smooth and comfortable, as rough and slippery terrain has the potential to cause slipping and injuries. Nobody likes a twisted ankle or falling on your bum, so do be careful. Also, do be careful about the weather conditions when you wear Camilla sandals. The jute that’s on the midsole is excellent material, but that too can damage very easily if the sandal gets in contact with a lot of moisture.
Traction

Traction

The same goes about traction. The rubber outsole although equipped with some ridging is very thin and therefore not suitable to provide the best traction. The ridges on the bottom of the outsole do help matters, but not that great and you do need to be careful when walking in slippery or wet surfaces.
Style

Style

The Camilla wedge sandals are as classical as they get, and that’s the best compliment that can be given about them. The comfort and support that do provide also help with the overall quality, but regarding the style, simplicity and minimalism are the biggest strengths of these sandals.

They’re the real stars here and you can find traces of them in almost every section of the sandals. In the open toe silhouette, in the suede straps that form an asymmetrical bow, in the slingback straps with adjustable buckle and in the fantastic jute that covers the entire platform and wedge heel of the sandals. There’s no need for adding other details, embellishments, studs or sequences because the simplicity and minimalism would be lost and instead of elegance and timeless style, you’ll be getting just another trendy shoe that you’ll be wearing it for a season and then you’ll be forgetting about it.

No, the durability of the shoes is mostly to the quality of the materials used in the making of these sandals, but a big chunk of the durability and longevity is due to the timeless style that was put in the design of the sandals. You’ll be able to wear the Camilla sandals now, and 4-5 years from now and they’ll look current, chic and elegant as on the day that you’ve bought them.
Bottom line

Bottom line

The Camilla wedge sandals by the Ugg Company are one of the best purchase you could make, and one of the most valuable investments in your shoe closet. They’re versatile, they’re elegant and they are transitional shoes that could serve you nicely in your daytime engagements and in you nighttime outings. They’re nearly the perfect summer sandal for every stylish lady.

However, if Ugg wanted to make them perfect, they’d make the bow a lot smaller, so it doesn’t swallow the entire upper of the sandals, and the outsole a little bit thicker. Also, the platform is a nice addition to the shoes, but the platform itself doesn’t give the shoes a lot more stability. Sure the EVA footbed helps but the slingback strap with adjustable buckle take away a lot from that stability. A slingback strap is not the most stable or reliable closure in a shoe, let alone in a shoe that is 4 inches high. So, a nice ankle strap would have made these sandals a lot more stable and secure for the person that’s wearing them.

But the Camilla sandals are awesome nonetheless. Yes, they’re a bit pricey but given the fact that they’re well made and with quality materials, they’re a nice acquisition for every woman that loves a great timeless style shoe, that is dependable and so versatile that would make them a staple in any shoe closet. You’ll love wearing them all throughout the summer, and there will plenty of more summers after that. Whether it’s for your summer laidback wedding or for a cocktail hour after work, the Camilla sandals will be there for you on every occasion. They pair nicely with a great summer dress, but they can really amp up your old boring jeans that are sitting in your closet. Play with them and enjoy wearing the Camilla wedge sandals.
