If you thought that Ted Baker is a real-life character, think again. Tedd Baker has never existed, not he’s influenced the creation of the famous Ted Baker retailer. In fact, the name of the company is shrouded in mystery as much as the owner and founder of the company. Nobody has seen Ted Baker, and it’s safe to say that nobody has seen Rey Kelvin either.

Kelvin founded the Ted Barker in Glasgow in the late ’80s, and in the past, 30 years or so, hasn’t shown his full face to the public. He’s not the typical CEO you see. He hasn’t shown his face on a photo ever, and he rarely gives interviews. He says that is’ because he’s an ugly bugger, but his supporters think it’s about protecting his privacy.

Even his office building in the middle of London is called the Ugly Brown Building. Yes, he’s been enjoying this status of anonymity to the fullest, but the Ted Baker merchandise has resonated with the customers. They’re responded nicely and helped make Ted Baker what it is today.

However, let’s focus on the Ted Baker Plowns for now. Hope you’ll like this review.

Outsole

Outsole

The Ted Baker Plowns feature a classic rubber outsole. The outsole is flat but separated by color. The bottom part of the outsole is made with light blue color, while the rest of the sneaker’s outsole is made from white simplistic rubber. Instantly recognizable is the horizontal black line that separates the white and gives it a nice elegant and minimalistic look. Regardless of which color of upper you’ll choose, the black horizontal line will be there. Right on the back of the outsole sits the Ted Baker logo, so you don’t forget who it is that you’re wearing on your feet.
Midsole

Midsole

Sadly there’s no mentioning of any significant padding in the midsole of the Ted Baker Plowns, however, the lack of padding in this particular area, means more room for customizing it to your liking. You can easily enhance the padding by inserting a padded sock liner, and customize the arch support however you like it. It’s really unfortunate that a company like Ted Baker hasn’t paid more attention to the midsole since the other parts are this particular sneaker are well crafted and well designed.
Upper

Upper

Would you look at that gorgeous knitted upper? Classic, simple and minimalistic, the upper is every sneaker lover’s dream. The knit makes most of the upper, while small areas of the upper like the heel area are covered with an elegant and simplistic nubuck detail.

The sides of the have different knit patterns and the difference in the pattern is what makes the mesh-like structure of the knit. The upper’s sides do really look like there’s a fine mesh attached on the side, and you can really feel the aeration in that part of the sneaker. The Ted Baker Plowns have a round-toe silhouette, and in some cases, the knit can have one distinct color, while in some cases the knit can have a mix of different threads. Like black and white threads or blue and yellow. They all look amazing, but the all white and black/white combo in the thread is the most sought after by the customers, according to Ted Baker’s official website. Both black and white
are neutral colors and they do look dashing on just about any outfit.

If you take a good look at the opening of the sneaker, you’ll notice the padding on the collar and the addition of the logo on the tip of the tongue. The logo sits on a textile background and it also looks amazing. And last but certainly not least the lacing system is classic and very supportive of the fit. The color mix used in the making of the laces can blend in with the colors used in the making of the upper, or it could stand out. It depends on your preference and on the model that you’ll choose.
Comfort

Comfort

The Ted Baker Plowns are flat, casual sneakers with a textile upper. What’s not to like about it? Well, the fact that they lack proper cushioning in the midsole sure stands out in a bad way, but the comfort is greatly improved by the other features. Like the textile lining, and the round toe silhouette really helps with the comfort, as they make the foot move freely and without any restrictions. And because the textile in the upper is very soft, there’s no need for worrying about possible blisters, injuries or any other accidents.
Support

Support

It’s always nice to have a supportive lacing system in your sneaker. Regardless if they’re performance style sneakers or everyday style of sneakers. You know the sneakers that you can wear casually practically every day of the summer. A good lacing system can really fixate and secure the foot, and therefore can give you the support from the top of the sneaker. The lack of padding in the midsole draws away the support, but the thick rubber outsole and the light padding in the collar, bring back the support right on track.
Durability

Durability

The textile sneakers are not known to be the most durable sneakers on the market, but a true redemption quality in this section is the fine craftsmanship that really revives the durability of these sneakers. If you take a good look at the bottom of the upper, right where the upper meets the sole, you’ll notice a thick thread of stitching that’s been done to the sneakers. That stitching really works wonders, and it’s that stitching that will prolong the lifespan of these shoes. Think about it. Gluing the sneakers is not a thing. But the additional stitching really amps up the quality of the shoe and makes them a hell of a lot more durable. The sneakers won’t damage and split easily, and the sole will remain firmly in its place thanks to the stitching.
Flexibility

Flexibility

The textile knit in the upper really was a setback to the durability of the sneakers, but it’s a real blessing here in the flexibility portion of this review. Yes, the rubber outsole is uniformed in size and thickness, which helps matters much. The lack of padding in the midsole also helps. But the real star here in the flexibility portion is the fact that these sneakers have a knitted upper. Yes, the knit makes these sneakers one of the most flexible on the market, and if you’re on the lookout for a shoe that could bend and follow your movement easily without any interruptions, you’ve found it.
Stability

Stability

For a shoe that lacks a great deal of padding, this is a fairly table sneaker. The uniformed outsole really helps, and so does the slight padding in the collar of the shoe. The lacing system allows you to fasten the sneakers as tightly or as loosely as you please, in order to feel secure. Yes, the Ted Baker Plowns are secure for the casual style sneakers, that’s for sure.
Airflow

Airflow

If the flexibility was high in the Ted Baker Plowns, can you imagine what the status on the airflow is? Every textile based shoe has a high airflow. That’s a given. But the entire knit in the upper is done in such way that allows the upper to be enhanced in certain areas of the sneaker and pushed back in others. If you take a closer look at the sides of the upper, you’ll notice the tiny perforations that are done with the knitting technique.

They’re in charge of the airflow through the entire shoe, and they are responsible for the moisture wicking properties of the sneaker. However, you’ll have to be careful when and when you wear sneakers. Because the upper is textile based, the knit will get wet very easily. These sneakers are not meant to be worn on rainy days nor in areas where there’s plenty of moisture. The moisture has the potential to damage the sneakers, which could shorten the lifespan. Nobody wants holes on the toe area, just because you were surprised by the summer rain. Be careful.
Price

Price

let’s talk about the price. The Ted Baker Plowns costs 150 dollars. Yes, it’s a high cost for everyday sneakers, but when you think about the comfort that you’ll get with that 150 dollar bill, the price really becomes priceless.
Style

Style

One great thing about the Ted Baker Plowns is the fact that they’re so versatile that you’ll be rotating them with practically every outfit in your closet. Seriously. Most of the models do come in neutral colors like black, white and grey, and those are colors that are easily adaptable to the color pairings and patterns of every single item in one’s closet. The cost per wear becomes more reasonable, especially after the 150 dollars price tag, but having them will make them worth breaking the bank.

The classic minimalism in the style, the round toe silhouette and the use of nubuck and textile in the upper all add up to the effortless style that could be dressed up or dressed down and you’ll still look amazing in both versions. The Ted Baker Plowns can be worn with your favorite jeans and if you’re more adventurous, with your favorite suit. Why conform to the standards and wear classic shoes that will do nothing pinch and cramp your feet when you can mix the formal style of the suit with the casual style of the sneaker and get a semi-casual combo that will look awesome day and night?
Bottom line

Bottom line

Ted Baker Plowns are a great purchase to make. Sure there are some flaws attached to them but for a casual sneaker that’s so versatile and elegant, they justify the 150 dollars tag on them. Regardless if you chose a lighter version with a white knit upper or a darker version with a mix of black and knit combo in the knit, you will look dashing, stylish and effortlessly elegant for every occasion.

The great think about them is the fact that they blend easily in more upscale outfits, and with some casual every-day outfits. So the possibilities are endless for the sneakers. You can pair them with your favorite jeans, and with your favorite suit, and you’ll get compliments for both of the stylish combos. It’s not recommended that you wear the sneakers on areas with high moisture, and the midsole isn’t spectacular but pretty much everything on them is. The knit is beautiful, the outsole too and the lacing system is simple and elegant. Be prepared for the influx of compliments headed your way, form the moment that you put the Ted Baker Plowns on your feet. You’ll love every single minute that they’re on the feet.
