Brand

Brand

Thirty years in the business is absolutely no joke, especially not to Sam Edelman. Their brand isn’t necessarily wildly known or spoken of, but that has slowly made a true name for themselves in the fashion world for contemporary style. Their flagship stores in fashion hubs peddle their street style that looks right at home in big cities or more conservative towns. For Sam Edelman, life has so many opportunities and highlights, your shoes should be able to support you and embody that truth while you live it. Fun footwear that never stops being totally wearable no matter your personal preferences, Sam Edelman has made multiple collections that have exposed the world to his straight-forward, chic style. This shoe is completely what Sam Edelman is about, there is no doubt about its brand when you lay eyes on the Odila.
Color

Color

While this Sam Edelman pick comes in basic black, there are far more style savvy options at your fingertips as well. Among the favorites of reviewers are the shimmering gold option and the pale blue rendition. The scalloping on the toe strap makes for a delicate detail that is perfectly accented by these more delicate colors. Their gold hue shimmers without being gaudy, and the all over cohesiveness of the color makes it really shine. Covered heels generally enhance styles to be much more streamlined and give an overall appearance of a higher quality make. With the Odila by Sam Edelman, that is exactly what is being achieved. This Odila also comes in what many reviewers call “the perfect nude”, slimming and elongating the leg, with subtle detailing that still turns heads in its muted appearance.
Comfort

Comfort

Even non-heel wearers raved about the comfort of the Odila. The chunky heel relieves pressure on both the arch and heel of the foot. Its lightly padded interior is much more forgiving than a bare-bones leather insole. The ankle strap doesn’t rub or chafe. Some wearers did consider it to be slightly wide, but this sentiment wasn’t shared by many at all, in fact, some stated it may be a bit narrow in width. Most found that the scalloped toe strap and ankle strap were equally quite adaptable to a range of movement. From homecoming to city dates, to every other activity in between, fans of the Sam Edelman Odila are clear that this shoe is elegant but still functional, and super easy to incorporate into your favorite outfits. This also won’t cause your foot to sweat and chafe when dancing the night away.
Durability

Durability

The leather upper of these Odilas by Sam Edelman creates a much more durable shoe than some other similar dress options on the market. Natural fabrics tend to be heavier and more resistant to tears and wear in comparison to synthetic fabrics. The thick heel that is covered in leather also makes these less likely to break when wearing, as your bearing your weight more evenly onto the shoe, lessening the likelihood of rolling your ankles. Thicker heels also don’t get caught in as many ground surfaces. It won’t sink quickly into grass or gravel, it won’t get caught in sidewalk cracks or spaces, and it doesn’t catch as much in general. This feature of the Odila makes it very scratch and damage resistant. Helping to make it an extremely versatile shoe to wear to a variety of locations.
Heel

Heel

Chunky heels are all the rage right now. Not only does a thicker heel look slightly edgy and up-to-date, but it also provides some great stability and ease when walking for whoever wears them. The pressure that is relieved from the foot in a thicker heel is incomparable to the normal stiletto or even kitten heel options. On this Odila by Sam Edelman, the heel is a modest 3.3 inches. A height such as this adds some drama to a look, as it will give you quite a bit of lift, but isn’t completely incompatible with a lot of activity and walking. 4-inch heels sans platforms can be really tricky, and luckily these Odilas meet theirs slightly over the three-inch mark. A polished design choice for this Odila is the addition of a covered heel rather than leaving the block heel exposed. You can see a peek of the seam when viewing the shoe in the hand, but when on, it is a continuous fully covered heel that looks entirely put together and really quite well-done.
Price

Price

Who doesn’t love high fashion at a low price? The Odila is super affordable for a designer name and an even more desirable appearance! This modern take on the strappy sandal is a steal at its listed price, being only slightly higher in price than some lesser-known competitors. Sam Edelman’s Odila is a cut above the rest at its price point utilizing real leather. The minimalist upper attracts even the toughest of fashion critics. Perfectly embodying a sleek but still whimsical summer sandal, the Odila is one for the books in how well it achieves this signature Sam Edelman look.
Style

Style

This strappy sandal is an interesting and simple take on a classic design style. The toe strap isn’t the usual straight-across minimal bar that can cause feet that are less than narrow problems in both feel and appearance. It has a slight wave and motion to it, which softens the whole appearance of the shoe. The color options itself of the Odila also lend to its softer but still crisp take on the classic strappy heeled sandal. This is the kind of shoe that would be perfect for an understated wedding party, or even to attend a wedding. Sam Edelman’s Odila is the type of style that is sure to attract attention and compliments wherever you set foot. Styling this kind of open toe look has never been easier. Shoes such as these can be seen worn with high-waisted camo options, casual joggers, or plain-old skinny jeans and still look completely perfect. The clean lines evoke an almost Grecian flair, while the curving in certain places relaxes it, making it less structured and easier to wear and pair with your favorite looks.
Support

Support

Heels aren’t really going to blow anyone’s mind in the support department. If you are looking for Sam Edelman's Odila to be an orthopedic like heel, it is absolutely not. This shoe is extremely basic. The upper offers no grounding for the foot or control of the overall form of your gait. The padding is practically non-existent, and other than adding a bit of softness to the insole, it is not going to greatly impact how supportive this shoe is. The ankle strap offers almost no security at all other than simply being attached to your ankle. The Sam Edelman Odila may disappoint some who love a supportive, chunky block heel. Their height is sufficient for lifting the arch and the heel is thick enough to fully support the back of your foot, however, this doesn’t make the shoe itself supportive, or anything even close.
Traction

Traction

While the Odila has some bit of grip to its outsole, it isn’t going to be ideal in damp weather or on rainy days, because the traction is lackluster. On the ball of the foot, the material on the outsole of this Odila by Sam Edelman is entirely smooth. The heel does have some extremely shallow ridges, however, that simply isn’t enough to really ensure that your foot will stay in place while walking. This smooth bottom makes it a great shoe for dancing indoors but it really can’t be recommended for a lot of more specific all-day activities. Going to a lunch appointment in the city wouldn’t stretch the Odila’s limitation, but a New Years Eve in New York or even an autumn date night may not be the safest locations to wear a shoe like this. There are a ton of sufficient places to wear the Odila, none of which are those where you made need a shoe with a little more grip. A block heel simply isn’t enough to keep you upright.
Upper

Upper

This upper is so on trend right now. Barely-there uppers have bust out onto the market for their simplistic style and flattering appearance. Instagram influencers have been rocking two-strap sandals like the Odila with so many outfits. It hasn’t taken long for uppers such as this to make a name for themselves. The scalloped toe strap is interesting without taking away from the subtle combination of minimalist pieces. All that exists of an upper on this shoe is a heel cap, an ankle strap, and the scalloped toe strap. The ankle strap of the Odila is adjustable, so those with different ankle widths can move the buckle to size on themselves. Leather adorns the outer parts of this shoe, while the inner is synthetic but remains breathable, making these shoes both cool in style and temperature. Most reviewers said the upper created such a flatter look with mini-dresses, cigarette pants, and an array of adorable outfits. That bare leg and foot illusion really does some amazing things for the appearance in terms of height and leg length. Just see for yourself.
Bottom Line

Bottom Line

Anyone who is seeking a shoe that colors within the lines while still having an imaginative design, this is it. The Odila hits every style point beautifully, totally wowing heel lovers everywhere. Though the traction doesn’t really compare to some more “every day” options, it makes up for it in fashion-sense. Leaving a bit to be desired, the support is also a lower point for this Sam Edelman heel. However, putting practical issues aside, the silhouette and overall appearance are spectacular on this chunky heeled pick.
