Wikipedia states that Flip-flops are sandals typically worn as a type of casual wear.  In most cases, they’re flat (although they come with a higher heel as well), and a Y-shaped string is inserted between the first and the second toe.  They also come with plenty of other names. In Australia, they’re called thongs, slops in South Africa, and jandals in Japan. And just as a small trivia fact, the name flip-flops is an onomatopoeia of the sound made by the sandals when a person is walking in them. Flip-Flop.

But history has shown that the flip-flops were worn even in ancient Egypt, wherein 4000 BC, the Egyptians made them out of papyrus. Those flip-flops were surprisingly well preserved with time and are still kept on display at the British Museum.

The flip-flops are now a highly popular shoe choice among people of all ages but tend to be much more dominant with the younger generation. Apparently, Mark Zuckerberg loved wearing flip-flops so much, he wore them in his Harvard dorm and to official meetings as well.

But for now, let’s look at the details surrounding the Report Genie Flip-Flop.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros

Faux-leather upper

Slip-on entry

Cut-out design

Soft lining

Affordable

Cons

Not very flexible

No leather option

Outsole

Outsole

In keeping of the decades-long tradition, the outsole of the Genie flip-flop is made out of the old fashioned rubber, but there’s a nice twist and an upgrade when it comes to the design of the outsole. If you take a close look at the bottom of the outsole you’ll see that there’s plenty of durable traction and the back of the outsole is slightly elevated with an elegant but very low heel.
Midsole

Midsole

There’s a nice crisp and clean elegant line to the making of the midsole. Yes, it’s practical and it's beautiful at the same time. The midsole is lightly padded and the padding is equally proportional in the entire length of the footbed. With the equal padding of the footbed, the flip flop is sure to provide equal stability and comfort to the entire foot, and there’s the addition of a soft lining on top of the footbed. It adds the much-needed softness to the touch of the skin, and it prevents from the foot from slipping. The light padding also ensures there isn’t any added pressure to the arches, and the entire footbed is stitched to the outsole with a special and highly durable thread. The midsole has a slip-on entry that ensures that the wearing on the slippers will be done more efficiently and comfortably.
Upper

Upper

The upper of the Genie flip-flop is truly a thing of beauty. The sandals have a faux-leather round upper with an interesting and elegant cut-out design. The round faux-leather design is supported by 3 separate straps, and each of them is secured with a minimal metal buckle.
Comfort

Comfort

There’s a surprising amount of comfort to these flip-flops and it all comes from the padding in the midsole. The padded footbed in the midsole ensures that the foot is comforted form the toes to the back of the heel and that there will be no pain in any part of the foot. The comfort is great, given the fact that these are flat flip-flops but that padding is miraculous even in such a small amount.
Support

Support

The slightly elevated heel at the back of the outsole, just adds up to the support, but the support is a two way street in the Genie flip-flop. It’s provided in a great amount from the outsole, but the midsole is not looking so bad either in that respect. The slight padding in the footbed can really make the support invaluable since they’re the only two things that separate the foot from the ground. There’s the much-needed elevation, and it’s good for the foot, but the materials used in the creation of the two parts of the shoe, sure help matters much in terms of the support. Rubber and faux-leather pair well in this shoe and the result is one supportive and very comfortable sandal.
Durability

Durability

The durability of the sandals boils down to the materials used in the making of the flip-flops. It’s no secret that the more quality materials are used in the making of the shoes, the higher the durability they’ll have. And that’s true even in this model. Yes, the Genie flip-flop is an easy and very cute sandal with a slip-on construction, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not durable. In fact, it’s a lot more durable than most of the flip-flops on the market, and it is all because of the rubber used in the making of the outsole and the faux-leather used in the making of the upper. There’s the much-needed padding in the middle of the sandal (the midsole) and all of these things combined make one highly durable shoe that is almost guaranteed to ensure longevity.
Flexibility

Flexibility

The Genie flip-flop is flexible to a certain extent, but compared to most of the models on the market, it’s a lot less so. It mostly has to do with the materials used in the making of the shoes. Flip-flops like the Havianas are even more lightweight than the Genie model, but that’s mostly because of the use of rubber and faux leather and synthetic material in the making of the sandals. The rubber and faux-leather a more thick, sturdy materials and because of them, the flexibility is slightly compromised here. Compared to the plastic used in the making of the Havainas, the rubber used in the making of the outsole gives the shoe a bit of flexibility and elasticity, but not in great amounts. Add to the fact that there’s padding in the midsole, and what you’ll get in the end is a flip-flop that doesn’t have the needed flexibility.
Stability

Stability

A bunch of great things can be said about the flip-flop’s stability and where it comes from in this particular sandal. The stability can be pinpointed in the presence of the flat heel outsole and the padding in the insole. Because this is flat heel sandal, the stability is greater from the get-go, as opposed to a scandal that has a much higher heel. The foot falls nicely and the outsole has a distinct ability to step on the terrain without any interruptions or loss of balance. There’s, of course, the padding in the midsole and what it does to the foot, provides a great deal of comfort. But, since the padding is in equal amounts and all around the footbed, the stability is much greater, compared to what it would mean if the footbed was located in only one area.
Airflow

Airflow

Don’t you worry. There’s plenty of airflow in the Report Genie flip-flop, and it’s mostly because… You’ve guessed it it’s a flip-flop. Most of the shoe structure is opened which makes the foot to be exposed to the open air, thus making it highly ventilated and aerated.
Color

Color

Sadly, the color variety is not satisfactory here in this particular model. The Genie flip-flop by Report offers only 2 separate color varieties to the sandal, and both are similar to each other. The first color is bone color, while the second is a tan color, and there aren’t any darker shades like black or grey. The lack of color palette in the upper is truly a big flaw for the company, and the lack of selection could reflect negatively on the overall perception of the brand.
Price

Price

Because of the use of faux leather in the making of the sandals, the Genie flip-flop is understandably much cheaper choice of footwear. The brand itself is known for their affordable prices, and with the price of just 39 dollars, the flip-flops are a true bargain for every fashionable lady that loves to feel comfort, stability, support and effortless style.
Style

Style

Faux-leather is always a good choice to be added in a flip-flop, and the inclusion of the soft lining really amps up the luxurious feeling when wearing the sandals. You see, there’s the regular plastic sandal, and there’s the higher end sandal like the Genie flip-flop. The difference is of course in the choice of the materials used in the production of the sandals, but in the design as well.

And while most of the flip-flops on the market can be worn in predominantly leisure time activities (and in more relaxed environments) the Genie flip-flop is perfectly capable of jazzing up a more elegant get outfit. A. it’s not a sports style of flip-flop B. it’s made out of more sturdy materials like faux leather and rubber and C. the design of the upper allows the flip-flop to be worn in much more elegant occasions. You know, occasions that don’t require for you to take your bathing suit and hit the beach.

According to the official website, the style of the report shoes is derived from the art, architecture and music scene located in Seattle, the city in which the company was founded back in 1993. Seattle's dynamic and busy street culture also has a huge influence on the creation of a cool, retro-casual style of the shoes but with a much with a clever, modern allure. They’re’ the perfect fusion of cutting-edge fashion, trends, affordability, comfort and overall quality, and in the past decades, they’ve become rivals with the much famous retailers in North America. The shoes by Report feature a feminine silhouette, that’s very affordable and transitional. If you chose so, and if the occasion calls for it, you can mix and match the flip-flops with much elegant pieces of clothing, and wear them at your nighttime events, but they’re just as awesome with you regular denim shorts for grabbing a cup of coffee with your friends.
Bottom line

Bottom line

The Genie flip-flop by Report is a good choice of footwear if you’re in need of an elegant sandal that won’t break the bank. Of course, the downside of purchasing the sandal is the lack of color variety and the lack of leather option, but other than that it’s a highly comfortable shoe that exudes effortless style. The cut out detailing in the upper is elegant and the padding in the midsole offers a great deal of support and comfort to the entire foot. The padding is included in the entire footed in equal measures so that one area of the foot is not secured while the others are left out. The outsole and midsole are nicely stitched together, ensuring the durability and support in the entire shoe, while the slip-on structure of the shoe allows for a more comfortable wearing experience.

The Genie flip-flop is a truly fine purchase.
