Midsole

Midsole

Since New Balance is known for their strides in the sports industry, it is only natural that they incorporated some of these aspects into their casual wear. The midsoles of these particular 574’s are made up of a combination of ethyl vinyl acetate(EVA) and ENCAP. The EVA is a lightweight material common in running shoes. This material helps to provide protection between your foot and the ground. ENCAP is an extra layer of cushion on the heel of your foot. The whole construction is to maximize support and comfort as you go about your day.
Upper

Upper

At first glance, this pair of 574’s gives off a strong classic sneaker vibe. This makes it an excellent pair of shoes to fit a variety of outfits. The Upper is strategically designed to give off the classic feel but the shoe itself is made out of suede/leather and modern engineered mesh. The suede/ leather is located at the toe and the back of the shoes. This helps the shoe keep their shape. The top and sides are made of modern engineered mesh. This is a strong yet breathable type of mesh. This also carried the famous N for New Balance. Though the tongue of the shoe leans on the thin side this doesn't take away from the support and comfort. New Balance went with the traditional lace closure for added support.

Though there are lighter versions of 574’s this version is not meant for speed sports. It is meant for everyday use so there is no need for them to be very light. Responsiveness

You will find that the responsiveness in relation to the soles is average in comparison with other New Balance shoes. While it does not give way to pressure easily, it also isn’t so stiff that the sole won't bend at all when you walk. The sole also offers adequate buoyancy and shock absorbency for everyday wear. Since the midsoles are also made up of EVA there is less of a struggle with bending after time as well. Keep in mind however that this shoe is not designed for high-performance sports but for other activities apart from everyday life.

Terrain

Though New Balance is known for sport shoes these shoes were designed for comfort and everyday wear. Of course, you are welcome to use them as you choose, it may not be best to use these shoes on super rough or rocky terrain. Though they possess a few qualities of regular sports gym shoes they were not created to be used for hard sports. They could handle the gym floors or light running or jogging but you must keep in mind that they were purposed for relaxing and running errands. Another thing to note is that although they do okay walking on wet surfaces they are not waterproof.

Price

Depending on the style the investment can be somewhat moderate when compared to other similar shoes. You can expect to pay somewhere around the retail price on the New Balance website. To save a few bucks some other stores do offer these shoes at slightly lower prices. Traction

Traction

The carbon rubber bottom helps immensely with traction on multiple surfaces. New Balance strategically placed grooves and patterns on the most important parts of the sole. New Balance made a wise choice to put more groves on the toe part to aid with traction as you push off the ground and to help with quick stops as well. They use the design from their 574 running shoes. This design helps with stability and effortless movement on the ground. There haven't been any complaints about traction on wet or smooth surfaces.
Flexibility

Flexibility

You will find that the engineered mesh provides an ample amount of suppleness. This does not mean that you will be them flopping everywhere though. These shoes are strong and hold its shape pretty well. It promotes the natural movement of the foot. The design and the placement of the mesh make flexibility in the most important places possible. The suede allows added more comfort around the toe box. This helps you to keep a natural walk of heel to toe without discomfort around the toe part.
Stability

Stability

New Balance created these shoes with support as a prime concern. The engineered mesh is relatively thick and as a result, the shoe itself creates a snug fit. With that being said the snug fit of the shoes provides stability as you wear it. Along with this the cushion of the EVA adds more security. This pair of 574 shoes is also equipped with adjustable shoelaces for an added tightness around your feet.
Drop

Drop

For this shoe, no drop has been specified by New Balance at this time. It is typical for the New Balance shoe to have a relatively small drop. Shoes with a smaller drop usually add more stability for the wearer. A low heel to toe drop means less padding but this shoe has added cushioning for this not to be a problem. There is also a minimalistic characteristic where the foot gets to respond more to the ground giving a barefoot feel. A smaller drop also makes it ideal for light running, jogging and everyday use from work to play.
