Made in China, the Jambu shoes are not only fashionable footwear choice but a socially conscientious one as well. They’re entirely vegan, meaning that the shoes contain absolutely no new animal products, and even they package every shoe in 100% recycled, recyclable and re-usable packaging.

Secondly, the Jambu Company takes the social responsibility to the next level, by producing quality shoes with outsoles out of partially recycled and re-usable compressed rubber. They even partnered with American Forests, the oldest national nonprofit in the US that works towards protecting and expanding our forests, and as the result of that partnership, some 50,000 new trees were planted since 2014.

Jambu was founded in 2010, but in the short 9 years that’s been on the market, the Company managed to develop a strong bond with some well-known vegan advocates and fashion/lifestyle bloggers. The partnership that the Company has with them is just the continuation of their advocacy for merchandise that’s made without animal cruelty and the unnecessary threats towards the environment.

Jambu Lily Platform is one of the Jambu’s great offerings and the details of this great sandal can be read below.

Outsole

Outsole

The Lilly model by Jambu has an all-terra traction outsole, which means that the sandal’s outsole is made out of non-marking and partially recycled compressed rubber. Let’s try and explain all of these function of the outsole, so you can have a better understanding of the materials and the technology that’s been implemented in making of the shoes. The all-terra traction outsole offers a better grip, while the non-marking of the partially recycled compressed rubber ensures that you won’t be leaving any marks when you’re stepping into wooden or tiled floors.

The scaffolding or scuff marks that some shoes leave on hardwood floors can be damaging to the floor and the Lilly models ensure there will be none of that. And the recycling of the rubber gives Jambu an innovative way to reduce waste while creating amazing pairs of shoes that are not only practical, they’re also environmentally friendly. The Lilly model’s heel is a wedge type of a heel. It measures approximately 2.25" in height, while the platform is approximately 1 inch in height. These are quite high sandals, but the platform and the rubber that surrounds the platform offer stability and comfort in every moment.
Midsole

Midsole

The Microban antimicrobial treatment is used in every single Jambu shoe and the Lilly model is no exception. The treatment that’s implemented in the Lilly sandal helps keep odors at bay and promotes a cooler, drier feel, while the textile footbed with contoured memory foam supplies lasting underfoot comfort. The memory foam molds to the anatomical dimensions of your foot to give you the extra comfort that you need, and then molded your foot will rest tightly without being overwhelmed or stresses.

Together the Microban and the memory foam will give your foot a very comfortable and soothing feeling that lasts long after you take the shoes off your feet. Think about it. If your feet are stinky, sweaty and not very pleasant, it will make even the best footbed in the world insignificant. Why because these are sandal type of shoes, and your feet will get dirty and smelly fairly quickly. So, it’s good to have them in order to keep your feet odor-free and bacteria-free at all times.

Oh and let’s not forget about the perforations that can be found on the footbed of the Lilly model. Yes, the perforations are present on several other parts of the shoe, but they’re also visibly present in the midsole, which ads not only to the comfort but also to the breathability of the shoes.
Upper

Upper

The upper of the Lilly sandal is quite interesting indeed. Made out of soft vintage suede, the upper is made out of one of those recyclable materials mentioned before. What’s the point of killing the unnecessary amount of animals when you can use the much older suede that was probably ones on some other types of shoes? Vintage is the term mostly applied in the style of fashion, but it can also be used to define the material used in the making of the products. So, yes, leather upholstery can be repurposed to make clothing, shoes and so on. And by definition is a composite of shredded older leather scraps, residues collected from tanneries and other leather product manufacturers, mixed together into a brand new material. It’s eco-friendly and cruelty-free and Jambu prides itself on the usage of such materials.

One thick strap sits comfortably in the toe area of the sandals, while two other straps in a crisscross pattern hug the foot for a more firm grip and stability. The ankle straps are perforated (just like the footbed) which allows the air to penetrate within the sandal and to keep your feet aerated at all times. Highly comfortable synthetic lining in the upper offers a great next-to-foot feel, while those straps are secured with a hook-and-loop closure at the ankle. Also known as hook-and-pile fasteners, the closure used in the Lilly model offer some added security, and tightens the shoe to the desired need of the person that’s wearing it.
Comfort

Comfort

The comfort is high in the Lilly wedge sandals, and several components contribute to that comfort. The Microban antimicrobial treatment used in the making of the shoes, the contoured memory foam that molds to the shape of your foot, and the 1-inch platform that’s used in the outsole. Yes, the Lilly model’s heel is, by all means, a high heel, but the walking is a lot more comfortable when you have a platform right in the middle of the shoe. Every high heel benefits greatly from the addition of a platform, and the Lilly model is no exception to that.
Support

Support

Yes, the footbed is mostly responsible for the comfort of this sandal, but there’s a lot to be said about the footbed’s help in the support department. When your feet are nicely supported in the midsole, your posture automatically becomes better, and every trace of tired restless legs will be erased thanks to the amazing memory foam that’s inserted in the shoe’s footbed.
Durability

Durability

Don’t let the word recycled fool you. The recycled materials used in the making of these sandals are as durable as the non-recycled ones. The vintage suede used in the upper is one of the most dependable and highly durable materials out there, while the recycled rubber sole that hugs the outsole will ensure the shoe’s durability and longevity. The recycled rubber used in the making of these shoes has a better shock absorption, they’re abrasion and crack resistant, and the non-slip properties will only make the durability even higher.
Flexibility

Flexibility

Because the outsole is made out of recycled rubber, the flexibility is even greater than with the shoes made out of regular non-recyclable rubber. The re-using of the rubber not only makes a great case for sustainability, but it also adds much to the flexibility. The Lilly shoes because are made with recycled rubber are more lightweight and can adapt to the foot much easier than the rest of the shoes on the market.
Airflow

Airflow

One aspect of the shoes that you shouldn’t be worried about. At all. The Lilly model is an open toe sandal that ensures your feet will be ventilated at all times. But the open areas of the feet are not enough for the airflow. To ensure more ventilation and breathability, the straps of the sandals, along with the midsole have perforations that amp up the airflow and allow your feet to be odor and moist free.
Fit

Fit

There’s a lot to be said about the fit, but the key things to remember in this department are the memory foam footbed, in the midsole and the hook-and-loop closure at ankle. Both the footbed and the closure of the ankle allow for a more secured firm fit of the foot while it’s in the sandal, and that nice feeling lasts for a prolonged time after wearing of the sandals. The fit is nice and secured in every part of the foot, from the toes at the front, to the heel in the back, so the fit of the Lilly sandals shouldn’t be a concert to you.
Color

Color

If the fit was satisfactory, the color varieties of the Lily sandals sadly aren’t. There are only two available colors: black and light grey and they’re both on the darker side of the spectrum. The shoes lack the vibrant eye-catching summer colors that are very associated with these type of shoes, and of course, they also like detailing in the upper. Wheatear ’s some sort of embellishment in the straps or some different more colorful and fun pattern that’s used in the upper, the sandals lack color varieties.
Brand

Brand

Jambu is a modern brand that promotes modern ideas. The shoes made by Jambu are noted for their eco-friendly materials such as recycled rubber and vintage, recycled leather, which not only makes them sustainable and environmentally conscious, they’re also highly comfortable and durable. Founded in 2010, Jambu is an environmentally friendly shoe company that makes shoes without new animal products, their packaging is also made out of 100% recycled, recyclable and reusable materials.
Style

Style

The Lilly model by Jambu offers a long-lasting style with recycled materials. Yes, this particular model is an open toe wedge sandal, but the style is more suited for a sporty outfit. The Lilly sandals don’t radiate with classic elegance, but they do have some classic charm that makes them perfect with your favorite denim skirt. They’re ideal of the sporty lady who loves the comfort of a great shoe but inserted in an eco-friendly sandal made out of recycled materials.

The sandal not only has a heel that measures 2 and a half inches in height, but it also has a one-inch high platform that just amps up the comfort. But these are not sandals that can go well with your little black dress or your cocktail number. They don’t possess the finesse and the regiment that other sandals have and the elegance is also absent. The comfort and the support of the sandals are more evident than that style, but if you’re looking for a more sporty type of sandals, that these are the perfect choice for you.
Bottom line

Bottom line

If you’re an environmentally conscious person that is all for cruelty-free, eco-friendly shoes made out of recycled materials, then the Lilly model by Jambu, should be on your wish-list as you’re reading this review.

The recycled rubber in the outsole pairs nicely with the vintage suede of the upper, and together they make one fantastic shoe that’s not only durable and comfortable it will soon become your favorite piece for the entire season. Like with the other shoes, the lack of diversity in the color palette is a real setback, and it would be nice if there was more pronounced padding in the footbed. For a shoe with such high heel, the footbed with memory foam is just not enough to ease the pain and to add to the comfort part of the shoe. The pain becomes evident after a prolonged period of wearing these sandals, and the memory foam can help, but it can’t complete the mission of avoiding the pain and discomfort.

But all in all, the shoes are highly practical, comfortable and environmentally conscious. If you’re looking for a more sporty choice of footwear, then look no further. They come all the way from China, and they have the power to become your new favorite shoes. All you have to do is give them a chance to impress you.
