Did you know that Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani are the only labels in the vast Armani Empire that are exclusively designed by Georgio Armani himself? Emporio Armani is the second brand that came from the Armani fashion family. The main focus is on ready to wear collections and runway collections.

The merchandise from the Emporio Armani fashion label is sold in the freestanding boutiques by Emporio Armani and on the official website of the Emporio Armani Company. And as for the man himself, Giorgio Armani originally wanted to become a doctor. That’s right. Prior to becoming one of the most influential fashion figures in the world, he was a med student. Armani then joined the Italian army, and with his medical background, he subsequently worked in the military hospital in Verona.

His first fashion-related job was in fact in the fashion capital of the world. In Milan. Over there when he worked as a window dresser in the famed department store La Rinascente. Afterward, he worked in sales. But it was the year 1975 when he opened his own label. And thus the Armani fashion label was born. Today is a fashion-forward label known for the well-tailored and clean lines of his products. He single-handedly pioneered the red carpet, high-end fashion, but for now, let’s focus on his Leather Velcrow sneaker. One of the many Emporio Armani offerings.

Outsole

Outsole

The basic rubber outsole may seams basic on paper, but one closer look at the design of that outsole and you’ll be able to see what’s so amazing about it. Here’s a hint. It’s all about the design. And what’s so special about the design of that outsole? Well, it’s three dimensional. That’s right. The outside of the outsole has a wonderful three-dimensional design that acts as a protector to the inside of the shoe.

The three-dimensional design of the rubber outsole, besides being a protector to the rest of the shoe, looks amazing and it really makes this sneaker stand out in the best possible way. The three-dimensional design of the outsole is visible all around the outsole, but the bottom part remains flat. That could cause problems with the traction properties, but since this is a lifestyle sneaker, the visible ridging of the outsole is not mandatory. And Emporio Armani chose to maintain the flat surface in the bottom of the outsole. However, the logo Emporio Armani can be found on the bottom with huge bold letters. Just to remind you who exactly you are wearing on your feet.
Midsole

Midsole

The midsole is the least remarkable part of the Leather Velcrow sneaker by Emporio Armani. Why? Aside from the synthetic lining that’s easily found on the insole, the midsole doesn’t contain any cushioning, nor any visible padding. This could have serious consequences on the feet, and without any padding pressure, pain and a lot of cramps can occur. It would have been nice if the midsole had at least a light padding, but since there isn’t any the midsole is unfortunately unstable. This unfortunate flaw makes the sneakers very unpleasant for wearing, especially after a prolonged period of time.
Upper

Upper

Made out of high-quality bovine leather, the upper is clean, pure and luxurious. Seriously. That clean, simplistic nature in the Armani’s designs is dominant here in the fantastic sneaker that is the Leather Velcrow model. And as the name suggests, Velcrow is heavily featured on the upper surface. While most of the sneakers have shoelaces just above the tongue, the Emporio Armani model has three velcrow stapes. Don’t get fooled by the velcrow. Although this particular material is mostly used in making of the children’s footwear, velcrow looks amazing on men’s sneakers as well. But what makes the upper so fantastic, aside from the leather and the velcrow? Well, if you take a good look at it, you’ll notice the presence of a fantastic tongue and exquisite stitching all around the surface of the upper.

The stitching in the upper is subtle and done meticulously so it doesn’t interfere with the style and design of the sneaker itself. The stitching is there to ensure that the upper is completed nicely, and it’s not trying to compete with the unique three-dimensional style of the outsole.
Comfort

Comfort

The round toe silhouette of the shoe makes plenty of room for the toes to move freely without the added worry of cramming and blistering. The sturdy material of the bovine leather makes one sturdy upper, but the fact that there isn’t any padding in the midsole really takes away plenty of comfort in the shoe. Yes, these are lifestyle shoes (and not running style) but every sneaker worth of salt needs to have at least a light padding. Especially a shoe that’s designed by one of the best fashion labels in the world. It’s unfortunate that these sneakers lack any padding in any of the areas, especially in the arch area of the sneaker.
Support

Support

The lack of padding is a flaw in the support portion of the review, but the three=-dimensional design of the outsole allows the support to become a little more prominent. The support that the 3D design of the outsole has, is focused on the external influences, but it’s welcomed none the less.
Durability

Durability

There’s no way anyone can fault the durability of the sneakers. Emporio Armani prefers the high-quality materials and that’s what they use in the making of the shoes. The Leather Velcrow model is no exception to that rule. The upper consists entirely out of high-quality bovine leather, while the rubber outsole is dependable, durable and amazing. What you’ll find is the lack of inundations and ridging in the outsole, but since this is a lifestyle sneaker, it’s not that big of a deal. What’s big of a deal is the fine Italian craftsmanship that went into the making of the sneakers. Every thread, stitch an inch of this shoe has a lot of care and time put into it, and you’ll be able to recognize that fine Italian craftsmanship on every part of the surface. The durability of these sneakers will become obvious, even after a short period of time spent on your feet.
Flexibility

Flexibility

While some parts of the Leather Velcrow model express high levels of flexibility, others weren’t blessed with this feature. But that’s all do to the materials (or lack thereof) in the sneakers. Think about it. The bovine leather used in the entire surface of the upper is thick, firm, sturdy and with limited flexibility. However, the lack of padding in the midsole and the design of the midsole allow the flexibility to be more pronounced on separate areas of the shoe. But bear in mind that this is a lifestyle shoe. It’s not designed to bend that easily mostly because the purpose doesn’t require it. Most of the flexible shoes are performance shoes, and this isn’t one of them. This is a great lifestyle shoe, and the flexibility is adjusted precisely for that.
Stability

Stability

However, there is something to be said about the shoe’s stability. Yes, a lifestyle sneaker like Leather Velcrow model can’t express the flexibility properly, but it sure can allow you to feel the stability that you need. This is a surprisingly stable model, given the fact that it lacks any significant padding, and of course because it’s a designer lifestyle sneaker. The rubber outsole, the sturdy bovine upper and even the three velcrow stripes really take good care of the stability without compromising the fit of the sneaker.
Airflow

Airflow

And among the other things that you’ll be pleasantly surprised is the amount of airflow that this model has. Leather and especially bovine leather has natural moisture-wicking properties that allow the air to penetrate in and out of the sneaker. However, what the sneakers don't have is any visible perforations, mesh or any other openings that could enhance the airflow. However, even with the limited amount of airflow, the sneakers are well equipped to handle any type of aeration. Your feet will remain aerated, and significantly free from moisture and odor.
Traction

Traction

Although the natural rubber is a good provider of traction, the Leather Velcrow model lacks any visible ridging, indentations and any other ways to enhance the traction on the bottom of the outsole. The bottom of the outsole aside from the logo (Emporio Armani) lacks any definition, which could signal that these sneakers could become accident prone. Why? They’ll get damaged over time, and any smooth, slippery or wet surfaces could become a problem. However, even rocky chalky terrain could cause a significant problem. Since the midsole is padding-free, you’ll be able to feel every pebble on the road that’s beneath you.
Price

Price

325 dollars is a lot of money to spend on sneakers, that’s true. But, given the fact that these are designer sneakers. Given the fact that they’re made with finest materials. Given the fact that the intricate Italian craftsmanship was responsible for making them, you’ll understand the high price of the Leather Velcrow model pretty instantly. Yes, they’re pretty pricey and not everyone can afford them, but if you can it’s nice to have a clean cut lifestyle sneaker made with the best possible materials. The price will become justified.
Brand

Brand

Emporio Armani is the son that Giorgio Armani never had. It is, in fact, the only second label that the real Giorgio overseas and designs by himself. That dedication and love for the brand speak volumes about the future of the company. Emporio Armani has numerous sponsorships, endorsements and lucrative deals with the best in today’s social, entertainment and sports elite, and they’re’ not planning on changing that anytime soon. It’s the place where quality and excellence merges.
Style

Style

Lifestyle sneakers are easy to spot, but not so easy to choose. The modern-day consumers are fed up with the nonsense of the busy patterns, embellishments and sometimes all you need is simple and very clean lines on your shoes. Shoes that have effortless style and shoes that will go basically with everything. The Leather Velcrow model is a shoe that has all of that style wise. It maybe lacks support, flexibility and color options (the model is limited only to black and white color options), but there’s no denying that the model is not stylish and modern. It’s the type of sneaker that will blend easily with your jeans, and if you’re more adventurous with your suit. They’ll give that everyday urban flair without being pretentious.
Bottom line

Bottom line

The Leather Velcrow model by Emporio Armani is as classic as it gets. Simple, stylish with clean effortless charm, embody the entire shoe structure, and although flawed in some areas, there’s no denying that the use of excellent materials compensates for the loss of some modern day features. The flexibility isn’t one of the shoe’s strongest suits and the midsole is severely underdeveloped but other than that this is an excellent everyday sneaker. Yes, it’s expensive, but think about what you’ll be getting in return for those 325 dollars that you’ll spend. A versatile designer sneaker, that’s made with quality bovine leather and a kick-ass style. You can expect a lot of compliments coming your way while wearing the Leather Velcrow model, and you might enjoy all of them. But that’s just an assumption. You’ll be enjoying wearing the sneakers more.
