Dockers are basically the result of the expansion of one of the best companies in the world. The Levi Strauss Company. That’s right. The company that’s well known for its denim jeans is also responsible for creating the Dockers.

Created in the mid-’80s (more precisely 1986) Dockers became a global brand for a business casual style of clothing. And their main export was khaki garments. Marketed as a masculine option for the modern man, Dockers offers a variety of products for the working man. It offers clothing, versatile styles of footwear, and an elaborate accessory selection for every occasion. Men can choose stylish work outfits, leisure outfits for a casual weekend and even a more elegant evening style of outfits.

But for this particular review, let’s focus on some of the fantastic footwear that Dockers has to offer. The Dockers Sunland is the subject of this review, you can find out more about the slide if you scroll down at this post. So, with no further ado, let’s look at the pros and the cons of the Dockers Sunland slide. Hope you’ll like this review.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros

Insole with memory foam

Upper made from faux leather

Synthetic outsole

Affordable

Cons

It comes in only 2 color varieties

Outsole

Outsole

Just like with any other synthetic outsole the outsole in the Sunland is also highly durable, very flexible and will be able to withstand a lot of the traction. And since this is an everyday shoe, Dockers is well aware of the friction that these shoes will have on multiple types of terrain. Inside and outside. So, the use of the synthetic outsole here is a logical step, since the synthetic material is a much better option for both the traction and the durability. Another great addition to the longevity of the outsole is the stitching in the outsole. A very strong and very noticeable contrasting thread can be seen on the side of the upper, and the stitching actually has two main purposes. It’s used to break the dark tone of the outsole and the upper, and of course to make the entire construction more durable. The glue used in the construction is a nice start, but what really adds to the longevity is the fantastic stitching.

And as a bonus, and in addition to that traction that was mention earlier, the bottom of the outsole is shaped in a manner that will guarantee that you have the best traction properties you can ask for. The bottom of the outsole has a nice indentation, or ridging as some might call them and they’re the ones that will protect you when you’re on a very slippery surface. They’re the ones that will help you not slip and fall on your bum.
Oh, and last but certainly not least, there’s a slight elevation in the heel area of the outsole. The elevation isn’t considered a heel per se, but the slight elevation is there to give you a better positioning of the leg without compromising the fit.
Midsole

Midsole

Now, there are two fantastic features in the midsole and it’s hard to pinpoint which is more amazing. But let’s start from the obvious. The thing you can plainly see with a naked eye, and the thing you can spot in the first few seconds of looking at the slide. The textile lining that’s covering the entire midsole. It’s soft, pleasant to the touch, it’s uniform in color and along with the footbed will become your BFF in the comfort department.

But more on that later, in another segment of this review. For now, let’s focus on the footbed. It’s not only cushioned, but it’s also made out of memory foam. What does the memory foam do to you and your foot? Well, just like the name suggests, by having the foam, the anatomical contours of the foot are memorized in the foot, and therefore the fit and the overall comfort of the entire Sunland model are much more pronounced. Imagine if it didn’t have this handy dandy foam. The slides would have been much more uncomfortable, and your feet wouldn’t be able to last a couple of hours in them.
Upper

Upper

There’s something to be said about an upper that’s entirely made from faux leather. Having a faux leather in a slide can be quite beneficial to the overall comfort. Mostly because it has excellent moisture-wicking properties, it’s a much more durable option than the real leather, not to mention a hell of a lot cheaper. That seems to be the case here. Because these are everyday slides you can wear in pretty much every casual occasion, having a faux leather will become a real asset when you wear them to the beach and in the comfort of your home. And you best believe that they won’t get damaged that easily from the moisture and the sun. No, they won’t get damaged that easily while you’re doing simple yard work, and they’ll become a constant summer companion on the way to the grocery store. The upper in the Sunland is basically two thing but amazing straps that are joined together in the middle.

They’re of course joined by that same thread mentioned earlier (mentioned in the outsole portion of this review) but this time with much smaller dimension. The stitching used in the upper is done with much smaller thread than in the outsole but it looks amazing nonetheless. The color of the thread however it practically the same color whether you chose the black version of the Sunland or the dark brown one. The lining in the upper is textile just like with the midsole, and it provides a nice comfortable and soft feeling to the top part of your foot. You’ll be surprised by the comfort of the upper. The slip-on type of silhouette makes it easy to put on the foot and then to take it off, while the width of the upper is just right to accommodate even the customers with much wider feet.
Comfort

Comfort

When you have a distinct pair that has a footbed filled with memory foam and elevated but stylish synthetic outsole, the comfort is almost guaranteed. However, the padding in the midsole is the most helpful part here, and the most responsible for providing comfort. The anatomical contours of the foot make a fine indentation in the foam, and allow you to feel not only comfortable in the Sunland, but also very fitted and relaxed. There’s no need to fear about potential cramping, about chafing between the toes and the lining, and every single area of the toe will be fitted on the footbed nicely. As a finishing touch, the textile lining will add volumes to the comfort by providing you with a soft buttery touch and a nice relaxed feeling.
Support

Support

Sure having a padded footbed with amazing memory foam is really important for the support, but luckily the support here comes from several places. Yes, the memory foam is very important, but so is the elevated, and highly practical synthetic outsole. Both of the areas complement each other and are crucial in the support of the entire model.
Durability

Durability

We’ve never met a synthetic outsole we didn’t like, and a synthetic outsole that wasn’t responsible for the durability of the shoe. Yes, having a synthetic outsole is a much practical and logical step when it comes to durability. The synthetic outsole will last a much longer time, and the fact that’s it’s strengthened with a durable thread speaks volumes. However, the textile lining in the upper and in the midsole won’t. Textile as a material is not that durable and it’s one of the few weaknesses that can be found on the slide.
Flexibility

Flexibility

Over here in the flexibility portion, there’s a mixed bag of good and bad grades. Some a good and some are bad. The bottom part of the construction is blessed with flexibility, but the very same can’t be said about the upper. Yes, the synthetic outsole is truly an amazing choice when it comes to the flexibility portion, but the same can’t be said about the synthetic material used in the upper. The faux leather is just not as flexible as the real leather would be. It’s very durable that’s true, but the flexibility isn’t one of the strong suits.
Stability

Stability

If the flexibility wasn’t all that impressive, we’re happy to report that the stability is. The entire Sunland is fixated, stable and filled with plenty of security. The bottom of the shoe (the outsole) and the middle part (the midsole) especially. The padding really ads up the stability and gives it a nice comfy feeling to the entire slide. The stability shouldn’t be that big of a concern.
Airflow

Airflow

However, the airflow should to a certain extent. Why? Because of the faux leather. The use of arterial/vegan leather can become a great challenge to the airflow and the mere air circulation. Vegan leather just doesn’t have the aeration properties that the real leather has, nor its great option for the moisture wicking properties. The faux leather doesn’t have the power to repel the odor and bacteria that could accumulate in the crevice. But since this is an open toe type of a silhouette with visible cutouts, specifically designed for the summer, the foot will get the needed airflow simply from the design.
Color

Color

It’s very unfortunate that such a great model like the Sunland, has only two color options. It’s true. The dark brown and the black version are the only ones that are available, and it’s really sad. A laidback, everyday slide like this one deserves plenty more variety. It deserves color pallets that are taken from the lighter side of the color spectrum, but it is what it is. Dark brown and black color options are there for you to pick and choose from.
Price

Price

A more positive thing about them is the fact that they’re very much affordable. The low price is mostly because of the materials used in the making of slides. Faux leather and the synthetic materials used in the outsole are not the most luxurious and expensive. The faux leather is the much cheaper, albeit environmentally conscious option, but you can really translate and justify the price just by looking at the materials that were used in the making of the shoe. The more expensive materials will always equal a higher price. The Sunland, however, has a price tag of 40 dollars and that’s a price that almost everyone can afford.
Style

Style

The sheer minimalism and simplicity in the style are almost in line with the simplicity of the materials used in the making of the slides. The light stitching done in the upper (and in the outsole) gives it nice contracts to the dark color plates of the outsole and the upper. The style- detail wise doesn’t go beyond the stitching, bit considering that this is a pair designed for men, not a lot more is needed here. The comfort and the style are great pairings here and you can see (and feel) both of them with every step that you take.
Bottom line

Bottom line

A men’s slide model that’s comfy, affordable and stylish? Yes, it’s possible to own a pair with those characteristics. And if you’re a vegan, and concerned about the ethical treatment of the animals than the Sunland a great option for you. It’s done with great care, the padding in it is fantastic and the man-made type of outsole is there to give you the best possible traction properties, the best stability, and comfort. It’s a great slide to own during the long summer days. Although made with faux leather, the design will compensate the non-aery material (like faux leather) provide you with air fluctuation in the areas where it’s most needed. It’s a great shoe to own.
