Brand

Brand

Columbia Sportswear Company got its start in 1938. For more than 80 years, it has been making quality gear for those who get their thrills outdoors. Gert Boyle has been a chairman for nearly 50 of those years, and she helped mold Columbia into the global sportswear brand that it is today. Gert’s parents came to the United States from Nazi Germany in 1938 and settled in Portland, Oregan. There they purchased a small hat manufacturer and named it the Columbia Hat Company. This beginning marked a fresh start for the Boyle family. The business was passed from Gert’s dad to her husband, Neal, and then to Gert when she inherited the business overnight after Neal’s unexpected passing in 1970.

Today, Gert’s son, Tim, is Columbia’s CEO and her grandson, Joe, is the president. The family and business has experienced ups and downs, as anything and anyone does, but no matter what-enjoying the outdoors together has always been key to their success. Columbia employees are talented, hard working people who are just as wild about the outdoors as you are. Their products are available worldwide, but they are based in Portland, Oregon; where the majestic forests, rugged coastline, volcanic mountains, and wide open spaces serve as their muse and playground. This is where they hunt, hike, camp, fish, shred, climb, gold, run, paddle, and simply enjoy the fresh air with friends.
Upper

Upper

The upper material of the Rostra Sandal is synthetic leather. All types of synthetics used in the shoemaking process are utilized because they can help to make supportive shoes at an affordable price. Synthetic leather is durable, elegant, water resistant, stylish, and inexpensive. This is why most custom leather goods manufacturer companies work to accomplish the strongest waterproof coating materials and incorporate them in the synthetic shoe products. The shoemakers demand it because a large number of consumers are on the hunt for durable, stylish, water resistant shoes. Synthetic leather will feel great against the top of your foot. It will feel more smooth and natural. It will conform to the shape of your foot and it will absorb moisture to help protect that area of your foot from irritation. Synthetic leather is, however, less durable than its real leather and textile counterparts. This means that synthetic shoes will degrade faster and need replaced more often.
Midsole

Midsole

The middle is one of the very most important components of a shoe. The way that it is designed and constructed will largely affect the shoe’s ability of providing cushioning, whether or not it is good at controlling pronation, and whether or not it’s good for rigorous activities. The cushioning and stability devices for shoes are installed within, or attached to, the midsole. The midsole of the Rostra Sport Sandal features not one, but two, layers of Techlite cushioning technology from Columbia. Techlite provides superior cushioning to keep you more comfortable on your adventures. It is comfort you feel right off the bat when you first step into the sandal. Techlite absorbs more energy, and a greater percentage of that energy is recoverable; as the midsole expands back to its unloaded shape during push off. Though the cushioning is lightweight, it is also durable and will last for the duration of the life of the shoe itself.
Outsole

Outsole

A good sole on any shoe is very important, but especially so when you plan on putting the material up against the elements. The rubber sole isn’t just your everyday run of the mill rubber sole. This sole features Omni-Grip and Razor-Cut Wave-Siping technology. Omni-Grip is specially formulated compounds and treads to make an advanced traction solution that ensures stability and the right grip for every environment. Omni-Grip is designed to grip rocks, dirt, and gravel. The Razor Siping refers to thin, wavy slits strategically placed in the rubber to provide premium traction whether your environment is wet or dry. One testimony provided claimed that the soles of this sandal helped keep them on their feet when they were walking along a slippery boat deck covered in gelcoat. A rubber sole provides more stability, support, durability, and comfort when it comes to sandals. And in this case, you need the rubber to be able to do what you intend to do in these sandals. Rubber can stand up to a beating and plenty of water.
Protection

Protection

It’s probably pretty obvious from looking at the picture of the Rostra Sandal and reading the description that these sandals can not offer you much in terms of protection. The only protection that the sandal gives to the top of your foot gets is from the two thin straps that come up along the sides and meet in between your big toe. The rest of your foot, including your toes, heel and ankle are not protected at all. Falling debris will not have a barrier to keep it from doing as much damage to your foot. Rain and snow will completely drench you. You will get hurt kicking a rock or sidewalk. But, these sandals can protect you from falling while you’re out in the rain. The can help you keep your grip while you’re exploring around lakes or rivers or the sandy beach at the ocean. They can protect you from getting cuts while you’re walking in water; from bites and claw marks gifted by the friendly animal folk of the water. They can also protect your feet from some pain and discomfort that would typically be caused by flip flop style sandals, because these ones were made with two layers of techlite cushioning technology in the midsole to boost comfort and support.
Fit

Fit

One of the downsides to wearing the super convenient and easy flip flop is that they are not adjustable whatsoever. There is no option for a customized, secure fit. You just have to deal with a universal fit that isn’t necessarily universal. If you have wide or narrow or half sized feet, flip flops could be a source of frustration for you. These specific sandals are offered in sizes 5 through 12, however there are not any half sizes offered. Nor is there an option for a wider width. If you have wide, narrow, or half sized feet, you may want to consider finding sandals with adjustable straps. If these sandals don’t fit properly, they could easily fall off into the water and float away. You want to make sure your sandals aren’t going to easily slide off of your foot if you plan on taking them into the water. If you’re at all worried about keeping flip flops on while you’re in the water, maybe you should be looking into more of a hiking sandal style.
Comfort

Comfort

There are a few features about the Rostra sandal that strive to provide you with as much comfort as possible with not a whole lot of shoe material to work with. The synthetic leather upper will move with your foot more naturally than rubber would. It will also help keep that area of your foot dry and free from irritation. The midsole has not only one, but two layers of specially crafted techlite cushioning technology to provide your feet with the utmost comfort and support. This technology will help alleviate some pressure from your feet. It also works to absorb some of the shock from each step to keep your foot from feeling pain and discomfort as quickly on your rendezvous. The rubber sole will also work to provide you with an additional layer of support and stability. There may not be a lot of material that goes into making a pair of sandals, but the people who designed the Rostra sandal did it with comfort in mind, in every way possible. It may even be a great idea to keep a pair of these in the trunk of your car. You never know when you’re going to want to throw on a good pair of comfortable flip flops.
Color

Color

The Rostra Sport Sandal is offered in four strikingly different color options. You have a choice between Coastal Blue with Geyser, Mountain with Sunset Red, Fawn with Oxford Tan, or Grey Ice with Red Coral.

The coastal blue is aquamarine and geyser is yellow. Shades of orange, green, and red can easily be incorporated into an outfit and look fantastic with this color choice. Simple earth tones can be used as well.

Mountain is a dark grey and sunset red has just the slightest hint of orange in it. There are many combinations you can create with these colors to give yourself a great look. Yellow, teal, orange, blue; finds the right shades and you can make a perfect combination in no time.

Fawn and oxford tan are just two shades of beige. You can literally wear anything with this color choice.

Grey ice is a much lighter grey than mountain, and red coral is a lot closer to orange than red. An obvious route to take would be to pair up yellows and red with the orange. But you could also opt for the bolder choice of using contrast. Throw in some teal or turquoise, maybe even green or pink. It all depends on how the shades go together.

Whichever you choose, mix it up and have some fun with your outfit and out on your adventures!
