Here’s an interesting fact about Cole Haan. Since the early days of the company’s inception, Cole Haan sold mostly men’s shoes. It was sometimes later in Cole Haan’s established growth that the company transferred in the making and selling of other types of shoes. Women’s dresses, men’s formal attire, accessories like handbags, belts, scarves, sunglasses, and hats were later introduced.

But the Cole Haan Company is one of the oldest and the most respected in the United States. Especially on the east coast of the country, where the headquarters is located. Founded in 1928, by the two friends, Eddie Haan, and Trafton Cole, Cole Haan is a derivate of the founder’s last names. Catchy isn’t it?

Today the company has stores in more than 70 countries around the world and makes endorsements with the best of the best. The best tennis players like Maria Sharapova and the best ballet dancers like Meghan Fairchild.

But for now, let’s look at the Marta model by Cole Haan. A classic pump with delicate clean lines that will become an asset in your shoe closet. Let’s take a closer look at the pros and the cons of the Martha model. Hope you’ll like it.

Outsole

Outsole

Although the outsole of the Marth model may seem dull and basic, it’s what hiding underneath that plain nature that counts. And yes, the rubber outsole would have been perfect just the way it is. Plenty of great shoes have rubber outsoles and they’re doing a fine job with it. But Cole Haan is no ordinary company, and they don’t exactly use ordinary materials. What you’ll find interesting in the rubber outsole is the use of a very special technology. It’s called Grand OS and it’s amazing. But what does it do, and what can you expect from an outsole that has this particular Grand OS type of technology? Well, it’s used in the making of the outsole itself. First of all, it gives the outsole that well-loved lightweight feeling. By having a light, airy and well-molded stable outsole, your feet experience a lot of balance, stability, and comfort. Secondly, it has pronounced adaptive flexibility. What does it mean by that? Well, this particular type of flexibility is attempting to mimic and copy the movement of your foot. It does it by copying the movement and then adapting it to the outsole, so your foot has plenty more free movement and comfort. And last but certainly not least, this type of technology has a very important responsive cushioning.

Yes, in the revered Cole Haan shoemaking style and technology, even the outsole has a special cushioning. In this case, this is a type of responsive cushioning, and what it does to the foot; it lets the cushioning to rebound. By allowing rebound, the cushioning gives back plenty of that energy that you waste by simply walking in the shoes. Thanks to this type of cushioning your feel will feel rested and will stay rested until the moment that you take of the shoes. Oh, and let’s not forget that a two and a half inches high heel, a stiletto heel of that sits on the back of the outsole. It’s a fairly small heal, but a thin and stiletto styled none the less.
Midsole

Midsole

The sock lining is the key in the midsole. Why? Because the padding is focused on the sock lining, instead of the insole. The sock lining is made out thin synthetic fabric, but the padding is accented enough to provide you with the best possible comfort, arch support and overall feeling of easement throughout the entire day. The synthetic lining in the midsole is there to take care of the moisture wicking problems that could potentially arise when wearing the pumps.

It’s the lining in that midsole, and especially in the sock liner that will give you an extra set of comfort, by having your feet dry and odor-free at all times. However, the height of the heel was taken into consideration when the sock lining was made. The padding is not that excessive, and you’ll be able to feel that padding with each and every step. Your feet will be well taken care of.
Upper

Upper

It’s impressive what you can do with a simple leather and basically nothing else. Seriously. Nothing else. You can say volumes with the simplicity and the minimalism, in the style and in the craftsmanship. Sometimes less is truly more, and that statement has never been truer than with the Marta model by Cole Han. Just look at the upper. It has both an easy and breezy slip-on type of silhouette, and a fashionable pointy toe silhouette at the front of the shoe. Made entirely out of fine quality leather, the upper is the pinnacle of simplicity and stylish minimalism. It doesn’t have any embroidery, no hardware, no broaches, no zippers, and no embellishments. No nothing. Just the plain black leather.

The leather in all its glory dominates with the clean lines of the upper and makes you feel confident, strong. It shows you a timeless effortless style that is well equipped to stand the test of time, with a small nod to the past. The pointy toe style of the silhouette is slightly reminiscent of the retro shoes of the ’80s. With the low stiletto heel in the back and pointy toe at the front. The kind of shoes that Michelle Pfeiffer would have worn in the Fabulous Baker boys movie. Simple and elegant without drawing too much attention to the bottom of your body. If you have a statement dress or a statement necklace that needs to be shown off to the world, the Marta model by Cole Haan will become the perfect vehicle for that. The model isn’t ostentatious, and the luxurious feel of the leather makes it a lot more rich and fabulous.
Comfort

Comfort

It’s easy to feel the comfort of a shoe when that shoe has double the amount of padding. That’s right. In a special instance of fine craftsmanship, both the outsole and the insole of the Martha model a padded with not one but two separate types of padding. First the outsole. Although made out of the good old rubber, the rubber is in itself made with the Grand Os special technology.

Among the three separate features in this technology, the responsive cushioning is truly the piece of work. The insole, however, has a sock lining that’s not only made out of synthetic material, it’s also lightly padded to help with the comfort but form different area of the pump. And when you have a slip-on style of a pump with a heel that 2 and a half inches in height, every bit helps. So, both the cushioning in the outsole and the padding in the insole are responsible for the comfort, and you really shouldn’t worry about this. It’s a non-issue.
Support

Support

The famed Grand Os type of technology is the true MVP here. When you think of the support you think of the responsive cushioning that it offers to your feet, the adaptive flexibility and the lightweight feeling that you’ll get when you have an outsole like this. Although it may appear very thin and basic, don’t get fooled by the seemingly unimpressive appearance.

The outsole is highly impressive and it should be treated as such. The support that the outsole has to offer is fantastic, and given the fact that the 2 and a half inch kitten heel is located beneath the outsole, it serves as a great protector and supporter to your feet. Think about it. A kitten heel and a stylish slip-on style of the silhouette? And nothing else for the feet to grab on to, but the sheer presence of the leather upper? You best believe that the outsole will do most of the heavy lifting, and will provide most of the support.
Durability

Durability

Having both rubber and leather in the shoe’s main structure is always a good sign of durability. Both of the materials are natural materials and highly regarded in the shoemaking industry. They’re great providers of flexibility, aeration, and stability, and the nature of the materials along with the craftsmanship that went into the making of the shoes will make sure the Marta pumps stay in your shoe closer for a long period of time.
Flexibility

Flexibility

The presence of that wonderfully lightly padded sock liner in the midsole is truly amazing. It creates a great buffer for the flexibility of the Marta pump. Because of the rubber and the leather on top and the bottom of the pump are many sturdy materials, there’s a need for a bit flexibility in the Marta model. Why? Well because it’s a slip-on style of a pump, that doesn’t contain any other fastening systems. So, every bit of help in the flexibility department is more than welcomed. So the just when you though a sock liner can’t get any better, in comes the sock liner that’s also slightly padded.
Stability

Stability

It’s not easy to achieve stability in the stiletto style of pumps. Especially in stiletto style pumps that have an easy slip-on type of design in their basic structure. But the slip-on structure and the heel doesn’t have to be obstacles in the stability. Yes, the stability is greatly diminished in this particular pump, but the rubber outsole with the Grand OS type of technology is trying to compensate and give you the best possible stability. All that from the bottom of the shoe, since it’s the first thing that the shoe touches when it hits the ground, and because the front of the outsole is the area when the weight of the body is focused. The front of the toes is the area that gets the most pressure, and it’s only appropriate the stability to be focused more there.
Airflow

Airflow

The Marta model by Cole Haan is a type of shoe that will present zero issues with the airflow supply. Why? Because the synthetic lining is there to keep things in check and of course the leather upper is there to do most of the heavy lifting. Leather is a great provider of aeration, and the air will be free to circulate freely in and out of the shoe without any problems
Color

Color

Having a great simple pump is a great option for every stylish lady. They’re versatile, uniform and they blend with everything. Black is always in style, but it would be nice if the Marta model came with other color options. This is a pump filled with minimalism, and clean elegant lines, so much lighter tones would be a great addition to the shoe. Warmer, lighter colors like white, nude and beige would present a great option for every prospective bride, and having that option would mean a lot for the company. Sadly the Marta pump comes in only black color, and it’s truly a shame because it deserves a lot more. This is a great shoe that needs to have more color options.
Style

Style

Simplicity much like the color black will never go out of style. And when the two meet in one amazing shoe, they form the Marta pump by Cole Haan. A stylish pump that although lacks embellishment, it’s not devoid of style and substance. It’s a shoe that’s versatile and elegant that will look perfect with just about anything in your closet, and that’s the best possible compliment that could be uttered about it. Oh, besides the fact that’s comfy AF.
Bottom line

Bottom line

Cole Haan really knows what triggers the sartorial needs of millions of stylish women. Clean elegant lines, high-quality materials, and design that’s timeless and effortless. Why bother with overtly complex shoe styles, when a simpler elegant shoe exists. Its name is Marta.
