It doesn’t matter if you’re an active person or not. It doesn’t even matter if you’re dieting or not. If you want to enjoy the taste and nutrition that protein bars deliver, you’re always more than welcome to. Most of the time, when people think of protein bars, they think of dry, hard, flavorless chunks of chalk that leave their mouths dry and begging for something to drink.

You can pick up a Luna snack bar on your way out the door in the morning, during your two o’clock crash, after work, before an evening jog, or before/during/after any workout. Treat yourself to an energy boost and punch of nutrition any time, anywhere.

Luna bars are only made with quality ingredients. No, they are not considered vegan or Kosher, but they are classified as organic. The bars come in a variety of flavors.  The ones included in the variety pack include two each of Lemon Zest, Nutz Over Chocolate, Chocolate Peppermint Stick, Blueberry Bliss, and either Sea Salt Caramel and Creamy Dreamy Peanut Butter OR Salted Caramel Nut and Chocolate Coconut Almond.

Brand

Luna Bars were created by Clif Bar in 1999. They are a brand of nutrition bars and were the first to be aimed specifically at the consumers that are women. Luna has since broadened its horizons to now offer protein bars, nutritional drinks, and even a film festival for women called LunaFest.

Clif Bar and Company believes in “Sustaining our Community”. This is why Luna donates one percent of their proceeds to charities which support social, cultural, and environmental needs. The primary charity that they contribute to is the Breast Cancer Fund.

LunaFest was established in 2000 and is a film festival that travels and shoes films that were written and even directed solely by women. When organizations and/or individuals register to host one of the LunaFest’s in their town, Luna will provide the materials and film needed. These festivals raise money for the Breast Cancer Fund (fifteen percent of proceeds) and a nonprofit organization of the hosts’ choosing (eighty-five percent of proceeds).

Being a company that caters to women, Luna decided that it is about time that a woman’s goals are considered to be worth as much as a man’s goals. This is why the company decided to fund the pay gap between women’s and men’s bonuses for the United States soccer team participating in the 2019 Women’s World Cup. It is the least Luna can do in their effort to level the playing field.
Gluten-Free

Gluten-Free

It wasn’t very long ago that people weren’t even aware that something called gluten existed. And when people started to learn about it, it was just those who discovered they were allergic to it or had a sensitivity/intolerance of it. It has escalated to the point that a large number of people now believe they need a gluten-free diet. Most of these people have been misinformed, misled, or are simply mistaken. Only one percent of the population truly is intolerant/sensitive or allergic to gluten products. If you do happen to be part of that one percent, these bars are safe for you.

Even if you’re not somebody who needs to live a gluten-free lifestyle, you can still take advantage of what happens to your body when you reduce your intake of or eliminate gluten. When you are on this diet, your cholesterol levels improve. If you have a buildup of bad cholesterol in your body, you are more likely to develop heart disease and experience strokes. That’s why it’s important to have good cholesterol.

A gluten-free diet helps to improve your digestive health, increase your energy and stamina, and keep you motivated to get rid of unhealthy and processed foods. Fruits and vegetables will be more appealing to you because they are gluten-free, hassle-free, and super convenient. Your risk for diabetes and certain cancers decreases and you build up stronger defenses against germs and viruses. This is because you’re consuming more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Organic

Organic

For produce to be considered organic, it must not be grown using fertilizers with chemicals or pesticides that are synthetic. Any pesticides used must be non-synthetic and regulated as well as not being irradiated or genetically modified.

Organic animal products are those that come from animals who have been fed a diet that’s also organic. They must also be raised under conditions which promote the welfare and health of animals. You can not feed these animals any growth hormones or antibiotics if you want them to be considered organic.

Organic crops have a higher concentration (and range) of antioxidants. These play a key role in reducing the risk of certain cancers and other chronic illnesses. Organic crops have four times less pesticide residue and a lower concentration of cadmium. Too much exposure to cadmium can cause kidney damage and fragile bones in humans, as well as brain damage, liver disease, nerve damage, and anemia in animals.

Studies have shown that pregnant women living near farms that use synthetic pesticides are more likely to have children that have autism or other disorders and delays related to neurodevelopment.
Good Fats

Good Fats

In the past, it was recommended that you steer clear of fats altogether. However, new research is showing that fats are beneficial and necessary for good health, as long as they are healthy fats. Yes, there are healthy and unhealthy fats.

When foods are “reduced fat” it usually means that the fat has been replaced with sugar, starches, or refined grains. These are digested rather rapidly, which leads to spikes and falls in insulin and blood sugar levels. It can also result in diseases and weight gain.

Instead of deciding to do a diet boycotting fat, focus on a diet which includes eating good fats and avoiding bad fats. Choose foods that have unsaturated fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) and limit yourself on foods that contain a lot of saturated fat. Always avoid trans fat if you can.

Trans fats are known to increase your risk for diseases, even when you eat them in small doses. Typically is your food has trans fat, it comes at least partially from hydrogenated oil. Saturated fats aren’t as bad for you as trans fats.

Luna bars contain cashew, walnuts, peanuts, and macadamia nuts as sources for good fats (mono and polyunsaturated), which will help satisfy your cravings and support the nutritional goals you’ve got set for yourself.
Natural Sweeteners

Natural Sweeteners

Another thing we’re told to steer away from is sugar. Yes, some sugar is really bad for your health. However, not all sugar is bad. A surprising and unnerving statistic is that the average person in America consumer twenty-two teaspoons every day in the form of refined sugar.

This statistic wouldn’t be so unsettling if refined sugar made people smart and slim. It has the opposite effect though. When it comes to finding a replacement for sugar that delivers on versatility, availability, texture, convenience, price, nutrition, and eco-friendliness, the best option is cane sugar that is organic.

Cane sugar that is organic has not been refined and does not have the environmentally harmful and cancer-causing pesticides that are in conventional sugarcane. When you compare it to white sugar, organic cane sugar is better able to give you the full taste of sugarcane without all of the extra processing that ruins many nutrients in the cane juice.

Cane sugar that hasn’t been refined contains eleven minerals, six vitamins, and seventeen amino acids, including antioxidants. Glucose, sucrose, and fructose are what makeup cane sugar.
Whole Grain Oats

Whole Grain Oats

Oats are one of the most healthy grains you can find. They’re whole grain, gluten-free, and a fantastic source of nourishing minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, carbs, protein, good fat, and fiber. Oats have a range of health benefits (studies show). Some of these include lowering blood super, reducing the risk of developing heart disease, and even help with weight loss efforts.

The important antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals found in oats include manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, folate, vitamin B1 (thiamin), vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), along with small amounts of potassium, calcium, vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), and calcium.

The fiber that is found in oats, when paired with a balanced diet otherwise, will aid in reducing your cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of developing heart disease. Fiber is also very beneficial to your digestive system and reduces constipation.

The B vitamins that are present in oats help the fat, carbohydrates, and protein release their energy for your body to use. Iron carries oxygen throughout your bloodstream. Magnesium builds your bones and helps your muscles release energy.
Soy Protein

Soy Protein

Soy is a plant-based protein (as opposed to the protein that comes from animals). Studies show that when you include more plant protein in your diet instead of more carbohydrates, there are undeniable cardiovascular benefits, including lowering blood pressure.

Soy is naturally low in saturated fat and free from cholesterol. The risk of developing heart disease is increased when you eat foods that use animal protein. Even if you just substitute animal protein with soy protein a few times a week you can reduce your intake of saturated fats and even reduce your risk for diseases.

When you increase your intake of soy-based food, you also increase your intake of fiber, which is important for your gastrointestinal system and reducing cholesterol. Polyunsaturated fat is found in soy foods. This kind of fat has many health benefits, like lowering cholesterol.

Omega-3 fats, which are polyunsaturated fats, are in soy foods. These fats also lower the risk of developing heart disease. Soy foods also typically contain B-vitamins, zinc, iron, and antioxidants.
