If you want a great pair of over the ear headphones that will not only look great but will sound phenomenal than you might want to consider the Beats Solo 3. They are super comfortable; customers love the way they fit. They are going to stay in place; you aren’t going to have to worry about them sliding down off your head while you’re active. They might not be the best choice to wear if you’re heading to the gym, but that doesn’t stop many customers from wearing them there anyway. They can handle the stress of a hardcore workout with no problems.

Some customers have had some problems with the longevity of the product, saying that after a couple of months to a year they will stop working in one or both of the ears, but that isn’t something that happens to everyone. It can be frustrating to have the stop working, especially after paying the high price tag, but, again, that isn’t something that everyone will experience. Overall, however, customers believe that they are a stellar pair of headphones, and they come highly recommended.

There is almost nothing that you can't do while you are wearing the Beats Solo 3 on-ear headphones. They can go with you just about anywhere you want, no matter what you are doing. Do you have a long trip ahead of you and want something to help the time pass? Are you someone who has long commute back and forth to work or school and want to tune out the world around you? Do you want something to keep you distracted on long distance runs or bike rides? Are you looking for something that keeps your mind busy at the gym? Do you need a pair of headphones for making and receive phone calls, whether for business or pleasure? If the answer to any these is yes, then these might be the perfect pair of headphones for you.

Yes, these headphones can go with you to the gym or when you are heading out for a long cardio workout, but keep in mind that this is not what they were designed for. There might be better options that you can use if you want workout headphones. You won't have any problems with them staying in place, as they will stay put when you're wearing them, but some people might not want to risk ruining the materials in the earcups with the sweat from a hardcore workout. So, yes, you can definitely use these for your active lifestyle, but it is not necessarily recommended.

The Beats Solo 3's are advertised as being perfect for those who have Apple products but don't let that fool you. These are also compatible with Android devices and work just fine. The only real difference is in how they connect to your device, but that will be discussed later in more detail.

Features

These Beats are packed full of great features that you can take advantage of while you are out and about. Customers love the headphone, mostly for everything that they can do for them; they definitely go above and beyond what you'd expect from an ordinary pair of headphones.

They are wireless and connect to your music player through a wireless Bluetooth connection. They have a pretty decent battery life, lasting about 40 hours on a full charge. They also have fast charging features, so about 5 minutes plugged in will give you approximately 3 hours of playback time. The great thing about these ones, however, is if you find yourself with a low or dead battery you can simply use any 3.5mm AUX cord (you do get one in the package) to plug the headphones in the jack on your device so you can use the headphones wired instead. It will defeat the purpose of having something that is wireless, but it is nice to know that this is an option in a pinch.

The earphones will allow you to control your music right from the earcups so you will not have to hassle with taking your phone or device out of your pocket while you are out and about. You can simply change tracks, adjust the volume, and receive phone calls with the press of a couple of buttons.

The Solo 3 headphones come with a carrying case, a 3.5mm RemoteTalk cable, universals USB charging cable (USB-A to USB micro-B), the quick start guide and warranty card.

Sound Qulaity

Customers generally love the way these headphones sound, especially for a pair of wireless, over the ear ones. Beats are traditionally known for being super bassy, and even though these ones are going to give you the bass, you love you aren't going to be too overwhelmed if you don't fancy yourself a bass-head. They can accentuate the bass very well but at the same time will not sound overly boomy, distorting the sound and decreasing the quality of how it sounds.

There are some places where they can improve when it comes to the way they sound. They are not quite as clean and balanced as some of the other high-end headphones on the market, so if you consider yourself an audiophile then you might be able to tell the difference and might not be too impressed by the Solo's, but for the vast majority of customers the sound is fantastic and suits their needs just fine.

Connectivity

The Beats headphones connect to your media player through a wireless connection, using your devices Bluetooth to establish the connection. Things get a little tricky when you're using these headphones on an Android device, as opposed to an Apple product. It works best if you are using an iPhone and the connection process is more natural than with an Android, but it can connect. You simply have to find the Solo's in your devices Bluetooth menu and pair them. It isn't overly complicated.

If you have an Apple device, the connection becomes even more accessible. The Beats have incorporated the W1 chip into the product that lets you connect to different Apple devices and set up your headphones with ease. This feature does require an iCloud account and macOS Sierra, iOS, watchOS 3, or later versions in order to use them seamlessly. The use of this chip in the connection process helps keep things nice and straightforward. You don't have to go through your phones menu and press buttons, the headphones just work, pairing to your Apple device within seconds, without any hassle. Of course, you will have to set them up the first time you use them, but after that, it is easy peasy.

Comfort

Customers have stated that they believe the Solo 3's are exceptionally comfortable. Fitting really well on their heads, clamping down just enough to keep your headphones firmly in place but not so tight that they are going to cause discomfort to your ears and head after extended use. The leather pads are comfortable, and according to customers, they seal really well. Yes, you can probably find more comfortable ones on the market, but that doesn't mean these ones can't get the job done.

One thing that some customers had problems with when it comes to the comfort level was the size of the earcups. There were a few reviewers who thought that they were a bit small and didn't like the way they sat on their ears, stating that it caused a little rubbing and discomfort after wearing for extended periods of time.

The vast majority of consumers believe that they are rather comfortable and they love their headphones, but it should be noted that there are some out there who do not agree with this statement.

Style

Customers love the style of the Beats Solo 3 headphones. They are wireless and will give you the traditional over the ear design that you would expect from this type of product. These ones do have a foldable design so you can fold them up and throw them in the included carrying case, making them easy to carry around with you and store when they are not in use.

You will get the iconic 'b' logo on each earcup and the words 'Solo 3' written on one of the arms and 'wireless' on the other side.

There are a variety of colors that you can choose from so you can find something that will uniquely suit your personality. There really is a pair of these for everyone. You can choose between matte black, satin gold, satin silver, gloss black, gloss white, rose gold, gold, silver, red, defiant black and red, or Mickey's 90th Anniversary Edition. Whichever color or design you choose, you are sure to love the look of them.

Durability

There are some problems with the durability when it comes to the Beats Solo 3. This is not a problem that a lot of customers experience, but there were enough complaints that it is worth mentioning. The biggest problem that consumers seem to have is that they will stop working after a couple of months to a year of regular everyday use. It can be very discouraging to spend the money on these pricey headphones only to find them unable to work after only a short period of time.

There are many customers who didn't experience this issue with the product, and they love headphones, saying that they are super durable and have had no problems with them at all. Some users wear them to the gym always, and they are still going strong. It seems that as long as the sound doesn't stop working, then you are golden.

Ease of Use

The Solo 3 headphones are pretty easy to use for most customers, even more so if you are an Apple user. As mentioned above, you can connect your phone or music player easily through the Bluetooth menu. If you're an Apple user, then you only have to connect once, and that's it. The headphones will remember your device and settings so you won't have to do anything else other than turning them on when you want to use them. It's just a little more complicated with Android users, but not by much. Regardless of what phone or device you are using, connecting to your device is generally super easy, and almost anyone can figure it out.

The headphones also have music controls and a microphone located on the earcups that are pretty easy and instinctual to use. This is going to allow you to change the songs and adjust the volume of your music with just a touch of a button. The same goes for answering or hanging up a phone call. It is all quite easy, barely an inconvenience.

Power Source

A rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery powers the Beats. On a full charge, these headphones boast a 40 hour playback time. Of course, the length of time your battery lasts is going to depend on a plethora of factors. If you are listening to heavy bass music extremely loudly, you can expect your battery to drain significantly faster than it would if you were listening to a podcast at a moderate volume.

If you're out and about and find that your battery is running low and you are able to charge it for a few minutes, you can get about three additional hours of play time on a quick, five-minute charge. If you cannot get to a charger, you can always opt to use them corded with the use of the included 3.5mm AUX cord.

One great thing about these headphones is that they charge using a standard micro-USB cord, which is included in the package when you purchase them. It is nice that they do not use a proprietary charger so you can replace the cable with ease or get a spare one, just in case.

Value

The Beats Solo 3's have a pretty hefty price tag, but that is something that you can expect from a product with the Beats name attached to it. The problem is, even though it isn't common, there are some users who had durability problems with the headphones and found that they stopped working after a couple of months. Those users would argue that they are definitely not worth the high price tag, and they would not recommend this product to users. That being said, everyone else would have to disagree with that statement. You get a great battery life, incredible sound quality, and a super easy wireless connection, making the headphones a fantastic product that most consumers love.

Bottom Line

If you want a great pair of headphones that look great and sound even better, then you have come to the right place. The Beats Solo 3 over the ear headphones are going to sit comfortably on your head, keeping themselves firmly in place without squeezing your head too tightly, causing discomfort. They might not be the best choice when heading to the gym, but that doesn't stop customers from rocking them at the gym, and long distance runs. There is almost nothing you can't do while wearing them. The long battery life and compact design let you take them with you wherever you go with ease. Yes, there are some durability issues reported by a handful of reviewers, but the vast majority are happy with the product. They are an all around great pair of headphones that customers love.
