Let’s look at the pros and cons of wearing high heels.

In the pros section, some might say that they make your body look amazing. And it’s true. High heels have the added benefit of elongating the leg, of accentuating the derriere, and of making even the basic jeans feel like a runway-worthy attire. Women like Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour are legendary for their abilities to wear high heels all day long. But for most of the women out there, high heels are special treats for special occasions.

For some of the ladies, they’re reserved for nighttime fancy outings with the husbands and partners. For some of the ladies, high heels are a staple for a night out with the girlfriends. But there are some brave ladies (like Posh Spice) who wear them to work, to a school run and pretty much everywhere else. The cons of wearing high heels are the constant pain, the blistering and the cramps.

However, let’s look at one fantastic high heel shoe. The Marci model by BCBGeneration. It’s classic, it’s simple and very much beautiful. But let’s dive into the specifics of the Marci pump, and look at the pros and cons of the shoe.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros

Wrapped heel

Synthetic outsole

Leather upper

Heel measuring 3 inches in height

Cons

The shoe runs a size smaller

Outsole

Outsole

The synthetic outsole is a very common material, especially in the making of evening shoes. In Marci’s case, although the outsole looks very thin and barely noticeable, it’s not so much for the look of the sole, it’s how the synthetic material agrees with the shoe. It’s what it does to the pump. And the synthetic soles although a lot less flexible than the rubber counterparts have much higher durability. The synthetic outsole, or the man-made type of outsole, as it’s commonly known, has a bigger lifespan and will provide the better shock-absorption to the entire shoe. However, there isn’t that much to be said about the traction properties. The outsole is very flat, without any distinct ridging which could prevent you from slipping or losing your balance on very unstable surfaces.
Midsole

Midsole

A big red flag in the midsole is not having any padding. Seriously. A high heel that doesn’t have any padding is a wasted opportunity to improve comfort and pain relief. A shoe with the heel this high should have padding in the insole on several places. On the standard arch area in the middle of the insole and on the toes. The entire weight of the body and the position of the heel will make the pain much greater in the toe areas, and that’s why any cushioning would be much appreciated. Sadly, the cushioning in the midsole is omitted.

A flaw that could damage the overall quality of the shoe. When you’re wearing high heels, and especially heels that are 4 inches in height, every bit helps in order to keep the pain away. The cushioning and the padding are the number 1 remedies for the pain relief, but when they can’t be found in the midsole, it’s up to you to make improve this section. If you choose so, you can put padded insoles that are removable or gel cushions in the toe area that could soften the blow.
Upper

Upper

Having Kidskin leather is always a great idea in a shoe. And especially in a slip-on style of a shoe that also has a pointy toe. Why? Because kidskin leather is even softer than regular plain leather. Most commonly made out of goats, the kidskin is very soft, buttery leather that is usually applied in the making of gloves. And when leather is fit for a glove, it’s also fit for a shoe.

The kidskin composes the entire upper’s surface, and one line of small visible thread is seen on the top of the upper. The seam in the upper is perfectly aligned to grab the synthetic lining underneath the upper and the leather used in the upper and fixates the two materials in one glorious unity. If you take a closer look at the surface of the upper you’ll notice that it doesn’t have any type of embellishments, jewelry or beading. Although some of the models will have glitter on the surface of the upper, the embellishments are left out in every possible Marci pump. The pointy toe does look amazing against the clean, simple nature of the upper, and a small gold pendant with the BCBG logo can be seen on the back of the shoe.
Comfort

Comfort

For a shoe that has basically no padding in the insole and very thin synthetic outsole, the leather outsole with the slip-on style of a silhouette is the only lifeline for the comfort. Seriously. The lack of padding diminishes the comfort with each passing moment that the pumps will spend on your feet. With a heel that’s three inches in height and a stiletto heel on top of that, the comfort should be a no-brainer. Bu over here in the Marci model by BCBGGeneration, it’s not only allowed, but it’s also not even a possibility without external help. You could input a removable insole that’s also padded, but the feeling isn’t going to be the same.
Support

Support

The synthetic outsole, as thin as it may be, does offer some levels of support. And so does the kidskin leather used in the upper. The outsole is very thin and very flat but it will offer some support when it comes to maintaining the balance of the pump. Both materials (synthetic outsole and kidskin upper) are thin and flexible enough to offer some support to the entire shoe.
Durability

Durability

Although the comfort isn’t that great, the durability sure is in the Marci pump. And that goes for the entire pump. Why? Because the key areas of the shoe are made with highly durable materials, long for their endurance and longevity.

The kidskin leather, although very thin is very durable, and so is the synthetic outsole. As opposed to the natural rubber outsole, the synthetic one will get damaged less quickly. That’s especially true for the front side of the upper where the toe area begins. That particular area is the first to come in contact with the terrain, and usually, the first one to get damaged. With the synthetic outsole, you don’t need to worry about that. The durability will shine through as time goes by.
Flexibility

Flexibility

The flexibility in the Marci model is present but in key areas of the pump. In some areas, it’s not, mostly because of the nature of the material that’s used in the making of the shoe. The synthetic material used in the outsole is very firm, rigid and not flexible enough to allow the movement of the feet. However, the Kidskin leather used in the entire section of the upper is the exact opposite. It’s a natural material (meaning it’s not man-made), and as a material, the kidskin leather is very soft, thin, delicate and full of elasticity and flexibility.
Stability

Stability

The Marci model is not a particularly stable one, and it’s mostly due to the fact that the midsole lacks any definition, padding, and substance. When the midsole is well secured, padded the entire shoe gets the security and stability of that midsole thus making the entire shoe a lot more stable. But although a key component is visibly missing from the pumps, it does have some redeeming qualities what somewhat make up for the fact that the midsole is bare and unsupported.

The firm and strong nature of the synthetic outsole, and its durability helps a lot in the stability of the Marci pump, but it’s not always enough.
Airflow

Airflow

Thankfully the presence of the kidskin leather is quite enough in providing the airflow, despite the fact that there aren’t any perforations, cut out parts in the shoe’s upper and the outsole is a synthetic one. By the sheet thin nature of the kidskin upper, the material allows air to run freely in and out of the shoe, and with that natural circulation, leaves your feet odor free and relatively moist-free.
Fit

Fit

That leather upper comes to the rescue again. Yes, the kidskin leather used in the upper is very thin; flexible which allows the fit to become better, despite the fact that it’s a pointy toe style of a pump. Although some of the ladies that left their reviews on the comment section of the company singled out one interesting fact. The women with much wider feet (especially in the front toe area) will need to purchase the next size up. They won’t be able to fit properly in the pointy toe Marci pump, despite the fact that the upper is made out of flexible material like kidskin leather.
Color

Color

You’re in luck. The Marci model is available in over 10 different color and pattern options. The Marci pump even comes with several types of glitter, and it’s up to you to find the color and pattern that suits you best.

It’s really great that a shoe with real leather in the composition has such a low price, but it’s true. Style

Style

A pump is a timeless style of shoe. It will never get out of style, it will always be fashionable and it will look on just about anything. Even on your old pair of jeans that you’ve forgotten in the back of your closet. They have the ability to dress up an interesting outfit without putting too much effort in the entire process.
