BCBGeneration is basically a modernized version of the Max Azaria’s legacy and vision. Created in Paris, and developed in Los Angeles, the BCBGeneration branch BCBG has a great target.

The much younger stylish clientele is the main focus of the company. The younger generations that are still exploring their own style, but are heavily influenced by the classics of the past. While the BCBG provided classic designs with retro influences, BCBGeneration looks to the future.

But what does BCBG even stands for? Well, translated from French it’s an acronym for good style and good attitude mantra. The two most important mantras in the Max Azaria’s life/work ethics.

However, let’s look at one particularly stylish pair of shoes. A pair that so wonderful, and elegant that it looks like it belongs to the Barbie’s dream shoe closet. A shoe that features a mix of textures, materials, and styles. A shoe that looks so scandalous that it might as well be named after the notorious Lana Turner. Yes, the  BCBGeneration Lana is a subject of this review, and we hope you’ll like it.

Both the review and the shoe.

Editor's Pros & Cons
Pros

Synthetic sole

Transparent detail in the upper

Pointy Toe

Wrapped heel

Cons

No leather version

Limited colors in the upper

Outsole

Outsole

While most of the outsoles have a rubber (man-made or natural) and in some cases leather, the Lana model uses plastic as the base for the outsole. It’s German plastic to be more precise, and as you can see it’s very thin, very smooth through the entire surface. The thin and smooth nature of the outsole can cause some problems in the balance and the traction properties, but it looks amazing nonetheless.

However, one of the disadvantages of having a plastic outsole, especially in a shoe that has such high heel is the mere fact that it’s not very low slip performance and very poor insulation. You’ll have to be careful when wearing the Lana pumps, as they don’t have the stability that’s needed in a shoe. But more on that later in another segment of this review. For not it’s worth mentioning that the stiletto heel that sits nicely at the back of the shoe, it’s wrapped with the same material that’s used in the upper.
Midsole

Midsole

For a shoe that has such high heel, and a stiletto style heel of that it’s nice that the insole is lightly cushioned. The cushioning in the insole is not only padded, but it’s also stationed. There’ no way that you’ll be able to remove the insole and replace it with another one of your choosing. However, the padding does help tremendously with the maintaining of balance, especially in the arch area. It’s precisely in that area that the cushioning is places, so it’s a great relief for your arches, and the rest of the feet.
Upper

Upper

How do you make a slip-on style, pointy toe shoe, even sexier? By adding different materials in the upper, and keeping the design as simple as possible. BCBGeneration really let the silhouette, the design and the heel to do all the work in the final presentation. You might notice that the Lana model doesn’t have any embellishments, hardware detailing, embroidery or any type of bows, jewelry e ct. No, why ruin the perfectly clear and simple nature of the upper with something so trivial that has the potential to ruin and suffocate the entire shoe? There’s no need for that. The shoes upper is classy enough just with the 2 sets of materials that have been used in the construction.

The polyethylene covers the toes and the heel of the shoe with a darker faux leather complexity, while the thermoplastic polyethylene is used in the middle of the shoe. And in contrast with the darker tones, this part of the upper is see-through. Both materials balance each out nicely without interfering with the style, and both are used in the same amount. It’s 50-50 for both materials, but the placement is very different. The clear polyethylene on the side of the upper gives the shoes a sexy look without revealing too much, and without the shoes looking tacky. It’s a great way to feel sexy.
Comfort

Comfort

The lightly cushioned insole really helps a lot in delivering comfort. After all, this is a stiletto heel that’s almost 4 inches high. It’s not an easy task to walk in these shoes, considering that it’s a pointy toe style of silhouette, there isn’t any ankle strap and on top of that this is a basic slip-on style of a pump. But the presence of that’s stationed padded insole really is a revelation. It will greatly improve your walking abilities in these pumps, and not to mention that it will relieve some of the pain that come with the pumps.
Support

Support

Sadly the support isn’t one of the shoe’s strongest suits. Like previously mentioned, there isn’t any ankle straps, no other visible fastening system that would contribute to the security of the pumps, and for a shoe with that high of a heel, there isn’t any platform that could increase the support.
Durability

Durability

The faux leather is a very durable material. It won’t’ peel that easily, won’t crack and definitely won’t fade away as quickly as the real leather. The breaking in of the shoes that are made out of faux leather will prove to be a challenge, and you’re certain to feel a lot more pain, blistering while it does happen, but its small price to pay. However, there’s no denying that the durability is on point in both of the materials in the upper and with the plastic used in the outsole. The plastic may not have the best traction properties or the best insulation, but the durability is present all the way through.
Flexibility

Flexibility

All of the materials used in the making of the Lana pump may be durable, but they’re certainly not flexible. The plastic used in the outsole is very firm, dense and with almost no flexibility to it, and the very same can be said about the polyethylene used in the upper. Regardless of how thin and pliable it was made by the shoemakers, the material will never be flexible as the real leather or like the fabric which is often used in the making of the shoes.
Stability

Stability

For a slip-on style pump with a high heel at the back and pointy toe in the front, these are surprisingly stable. Oh and don’t forget that they don’t have any fastening system, not straps, no buckles. No nothing. However, the shoe does have a plastic outsole and a lightly padded insole. The padding does a better job in providing stability, but the outsole is not looking too shabby in this area as well.
Airflow

Airflow

While the durability and stability were really present, the airflow is sadly very absent in the Lana pump. Because of the synthetic nature of the materials used in the making of the shoe, and because there isn’t any other way the air could penetrate in the shoe’s cavity the airflow is very limited. The only part of the shoe that gets any aeration is the bare part of the foot that isn’t inserted in the shoe. There aren’t any perforations or any other aeration system that could improve the airflow and it’s just sad. These shoes deserved a lot better aeration.
Color

Color

BCBGeneration offers three separate color choices for the Lana pumps. The black classic version is very much in demand (according to the official website) and so is the off white version. Apparently the former is purchased for nighttime outings while the off-white is purchase by plenty of brides and graduating students that want to incorporate the shoes into their prom attire.
Fit

Fit

The plenty of comments left by the customers in the comment section suggested that the pump has a nearly perfect fit. The only down-side of the fit is the pointy toe style of a silhouette. Some of the ladies with much wider feet (especially in the toe area) had trouble fitting in nicely in the shoe and suggested to purchase the next size up.
Style

Style

The Lana pumps are classic, and yet modern. They pay tribute to the old school shoes of the past but with a modern and stylish flair. The used of clear polyethylene on the sides of the shoe is a nice improvement of the style and bringing it to the present time. The shoe lacks any embellishment or embroidery but it’s not really needed in the style department.

The classic lines of the upper speak volumes. it makes the shoes timeless and effortlessly amazing. The light padding in the insole is the only source of comfort, stability, while the use of plastic and polyethylene will prove to be quite the challenge for the pain. These shoes do have a high heel, both slip-on and pointy toe types of silhouette and those things are enough to make them uncomfortable. But when there’s polyethylene present in the upper the pain can really cause a problem before the shoes are broken in enough to be wearable for a lengthy period of time.
Price

Price

Ranging from 70 dollars and going all the way up to 100 dollars, the Lana pumps are affordable for almost every fashionista. The lack of natural materials like leather and rubber, really explains the low price of the shoes, but since BCBGeneration’s merchandise is aimed to appeal to the much younger generation, they’ll do the trick.
Bottom line

Bottom line

Completely made out of synthetic, man-made materials, the Lana pumps are a playful, sexy and modern version of the classic. If you’re looking for a way to feel like a million bucks, they’ll help you with that. They can be purchased in three separate color options and they exurb sex appeal from every inch of the shoe. They’re a nice purchase, but they’re not the most flexible and aerated shoes out there. But they’re fun, bold and affordable. You should definitely check them out.
