Chic and sophistication are terms that commonly connects with designer Patrick Ash. A European designer, Ash works in keeping with European classics while, also, pushing the lines of elegance and on-trend design. Here, Ash brings us an interesting flip-flop creation. Rolling straps delight us with their subtle potential. Power and edginess both hint at our right to belong. There is a sense of understanding; places where we have been. Experiences gained, and yet, this creation beckons us onward. It’s as though our feats have only begun, and that by stepping into these flip-flops, we can somehow dive a little deeper into the adventures which still awaits; a calling, as it were. The curvature of the footbed remains feminine; a reminder that power and sexiness can go hand-in-hand within the dance of a woman’s life. Furthermore, this artistic blueprint presents itself with the stature in which she belongs; empowerment looms within. But can this proposal stand tall with her expectations? Will it comfort and last; never to let her down?
The next best thing to the feeling of walking barefoot
is the wearing of sandals
. Airflow remains at an all-time high, and we gain that guilty pleasure while holding onto the safety of wearing something underneath our feet. The most common problem which can arise with this type of product is sweating
. Depending on the material makeup, we find that the footbed will either repel or absorb. When it repels, things can become quite messy; slippery even. When it absorbs, we may fight staining or other annoying attributes. So, which is better? For breathability purposes, we need a material which absorbs but can dry out in a short amount of time, especially when it comes to flip-flops and sandals. Here, we have a leather
footbed. This material does absorb appropriately and can air dry quite nicely. At the end of the day, this is one of the materials we look for, as this applies to decent breathability. As such, airflow receives high marks.
Upon close examination, we find that the footbed is made with a curvature design. Created with a woman's foot in mind, the contouring works to aid each step. Basically, with this type of setup, there is a natural feel while walking, standing, and so on. A footbed which is flat, on the other hand, can bring about pain and discomfort. One of the main culprits behind this is the lack of contouring. As such, the design in and of itself demands a higher degree of comfort versus a footbed which is completely flat. In addition, this particular footbed is, also, cushioned. In essence, each step taken will have energy which is absorbed into the footbed. This lowers the amount of stress upon the ankles, knees, hips, and feet. Moreover, with both of these elements working together as one, we receive more comfort than a pair which lacks in one or both of these areas. But it doesn't end there. The straps, also, can be a source of discomfort if not made correctly. They can dig in and/or cause rubbing, rawness, and so on. This creation utilizes puffy straps that wrap. They are soft and gentle around the foot. The toe piece, also, employs the same design. When we combine each of these characteristics together, we receive a combination that truly takes comfort into consideration. So, comfort presents itself extensively within this footwear.
This is an item which utilizes rubber and leather
within its material lineup. Both of these have a decent amount of longevity associated with them. So, as far as materials are concerned, durability is a non-issue; that is, these will last. Durability, however, has another important factor to consider, as well. This is in the realm of construction. The best materials in the world won't hold together if the construction is terrible. With this product, we find refined edges and careful stitching. Care has been placed within the overall construction. As such, this is an item that will make it through multiple seasons and isn't something that will fall apart after wearing only a few times. At the end of the day, durability remains high because both the materials and construction are on par with what we expect from any designer footwear.
The fit is, indeed, something to behold. Between the puffy straps and the contouring footbed, we are given a rather nice product which hugs, yet allows us freedom of independence. This is a flip-flop, so it will never fit akin to something having adjustable straps. As such, we do not measure one against the other, but rather, measure only as a flip-flop design. In this, the fit receives high marks. Unfortunately, however, the fit isn't as grand as we would like. This is because sizing lacks. For those women in need of half sizes, the designer has failed. You will need to size up to accommodate this shortcoming. We do not believe this to be a fair approach from any designer, especially when considering cost factors. When prices go up, the correct size should always be available. It is not the job of the consumer to change their foot size; nor, is this a reasonable request for obvious reasons. This means the fit is wonderful to those who do not fall into any half-size ranges. Everyone else will find that the fit is a bit looser than it should be. As such, the overall fit takes a hit because of this shortcut, so to speak.
Because of the leather upper, it will take some time for the straps to stretch, as it were. This will raise flexibility over the long term. The outsole is rubber, and because of its thickness factor, is flexible by default. When it comes to flip-flop designs, there are thick and thin versions. Thinner versions have a lot of flexibility but tend to break down much quicker than a flip-flop having a thicker build which utilizes the same type materials. Here, we find an appropriate thickness factor which is associated with high-quality materials. And since the footbed does contour to a woman's foot, then there are no issues with unnecessary bending of the product. Not only does this increase overall longevity, but the flexibility attribute still remains high, as well. In this, Ash has done a fine job at providing an ample amount of flexibility.
Leather Upper: Sheepskin
Heel Height: 1"
Platform Height: 0.5"

In addition to the aforementioned, the straps are rolled in a puffy style. This raises comfort levels versus a solid piece which is less forgiving. Furthermore, signature logos allow us to present our flip-flops with pride; showcasing to everyone that Ash adorns our feet. Another key feature which is seldom presented in any list is the comfort factor. These are extremely comfortable for those who can fit in them in the way in which they are designed. We really only find fault in the lack of half sizes, which changes the fit for those who must size up. And although the comfort still remains, the looser experience will affect how someone perceives the comfort level. As such, the key feature of comfort would be a ten for those without the need for a half size but lowers to a nine for everyone else.
An important defining feature for any flip-flop is the outsole. After all, we wear flip-flops in the backyard, around the pool, and other such places. With some zones of interest having wet conditions, a flip-flop lacking in the outsole area can become hazardous, to say the least. This particular outsole is made of rubber and contains enough traction for minimal water spots. Now, we do not suggest you wear these as an anti-slip product; that is, there are no lugs present and the triangular pattern sits flush. This design will work with care taken, but there are better options on the market for poolside hangouts
. At the end of the day, this outsole design is better suited to dry conditions; albeit, it will grab when a minimal watery condition is found. Furthermore, the longevity factor of the outsole remains high under normal stresses and the overall construction is rather decent.
It is important to realize that this is a pair of designer flip-flops. As such, the price is always going to be much higher than that of others. With that being said, to justify a higher price, outside of purchasing a brand name (more or less), we must examine the item to see if there are elements present which help to solidify the name upon the product. With this product, we find that the leather upper is made with sheepskin. This means the material is going to be much softer than that of cowhide. And although the treatment process of leather can highly dictate the softness element, per se, sheepskin is more supple than cowhide. So, if we are determining durability as a means to compare pricing, then cowhide wins. However, cowhide is a bad idea when it comes to the material between the toes. It is less forgiving and is not soft enough when compared to its sheepskin counterpart; albeit, it can be softened. When we consider the construction, the materials, and the overall makeup of this flip-flop, we can't help but deduce that some of the pricing is, indeed, the brand name. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but more of an individual choice thing. So, if you don't mind spending the extra cash in exchange for the name, then these are a great buy. After all, the materials and quality are present for an item which we consider to be sound and of high value.
This is a style which pushes the envelope with bold enthusiasm. Comfort does run at the forefront and the overall aesthetics are both sexy and empowering. We like the contrasting stripes upon the straps and, more importantly, the wraparound plush design is highly desirable. Furthermore, the cup-style footbed with contouring features is amazing. Overall, we love how this particular setup allows for a wider range of age groups. Many times, we find that a style may work cohesively with one group but not remain so with others. This is not true with this item. In fact, we are able to envision many age differences wearing these. Also, the ability to wear shorts and jeans with equal success help to drive this product ever closer to the soaring top. Overall, the style hits the mark and does so in a superb fashion.
With the contouring footbed at play, support highly enhances. Additionally, we have a nice platform and low heel height to help comfortability levels rise even further. Since these are flip-flops, we don't expect much in the way of support (i.e. ankles, etc.). But we do, however, expect our feet to feel good while wearing them. Ash has done a wonderful job with accomplishing this goal. And not only do feet feel great with these on, but there is a subtle sense of loss after taking them off. It's as though on some sub-conscious level, we miss the feeling we once had. This may be in the eye of the beholder, so to speak, but the concept does remain the same with a likened experience, nonetheless. Lastly, support is going to feel differently from one person to the next. But in the overall scheme of things, support does rank high with this particular pair.
The bottom line is that this is a great buy. Even though pricing is somewhat in the levels of the sky and beyond, the ending quality of materials and construction is, most definitely, present. People that purchase designer items buy them for the name, as much as they do for the quality. After all, in most cases, the quality you receive is synonymous with the name given. These are designer flip-flops. The style and other elements, thereof, showcases this very fact. If you are looking for a good pair which will last through multiple seasons, then these will do just that. Given that usage is kept to expected environments, this is a product which warrants the claim. But at the end of the day, the purchase is about you. If you love them, as we do, buy them up!
