November 2009

It’s starting to get cold out! In this newsletter, we’ll give you tips on how to layer for those cold morning runs. Getting anxious for Thanksgiving? Run a Turkey Trot in your area.

And a quick hello and thanks to everyone we met at the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K race expo. It was our first and definitely Mary Jayaraman - the winner of the Garmin 305 we gave away at the expo on Sunday.

Win an iPod Touch

Starting an annual tradition we'd like to find out about you as a walker, jogger, runner or cyclist to help guide the direction of the website and the iPhone/mobile development so we've put together some questions. Please take a few moments to complete the survey. One lucky participant will win an iPod Touch and a free copy of our iPhone app WalkJogRun Routes!

Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night (UK)

Adam here is quite excited for Bonfire Night. He’s not going anywhere for it; he’s just excited! This annual celebration occurs on November 5, marking the downfall of the plot, which Guy Fawkes was a part of, to blow up the House of Parliament in London.

A couple races celebrating the holiday: Nidd Valley Road Runners Guy Fawkes 10 and the Tewkesbury AC Guy Fawkes 5.

Gear Up for Winter

As the cold weather begins to hit most of us, it can be a little tricky trying to figure out what will keep you warm but cool during your runs.

Tips to remember:

  1. Base layer should be snug fitting, thin,
    and moisture-wicking
  2. Use a mid layer for temperatures
    below 30° F
  3. Outer layer protects you from elements. Should be waterproof and wind-resistant

This video from RunnersWorld.com illustrates example clothing items for your winter runs.

Philadelphia Marathon

The Philadelphia Marathon takes place on November 22, 2009. Runners will enjoy a fast course on which you’ll be able to see Philadelphia’s historic downtown, past the Art Museum, and along Boathouse Row. There’s also a half marathon and a 5k race. The official page for all things Philly is GoPhila.com . Here you’ll find things to do, such as the famous Art Museum and tours of the historic downtown. Running the race? Let us know how you did!
