The Event
Come out and participate in the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation 2012 5-K Run/Walk on Saturday, August 25, 2012! This end of the summer race to beat the heat will start at 7:30 am at The Heritage Society - across from Sam Houston Park in Downtown Houston. Participants will go out and back along Allen Parkway. Following the event, a great post race party is planned at The Heritage Society Plaza where there will be music, food, drinks, and fun for the whole family!
Race Information and Packet Pick-up
The race will be chip timed, and the course is USAT&F sanctioned & certified. Prizes will be awarded based on chip time per age groups. There will also be drawings for some great door prizes. Packet Pick-up will be at Finish Strong Sports located at 6426 Washington Ave., Houston, TX 77007, and will occur on Thursday and Friday, August 23 and 24, from noon to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm on both days.
Parking
Free race day parking will be available at The Heritage Society parking lot across from Sam Houston Park behind the Kellum-Noble House. You can enter the lot from the inbound side of Allen Parkway prior to street closure for the event to occur at approximately 6:15am. Otherwise, you can enter the lot from the intersection of Clay and Bagby/West Dallas St. The Heritage Society address is 1100 Bagby Street, Houston, TX 77002. Also, appropriately metered street parking should be free until 8am.
Beneficiaries
The Houston Young Lawyers Foundation 5-K benefits HYLF’s Grant Program and Change Happens! Change Happens! has a variety of local programs and services such as youth development, substance abuse prevention and treatment, supportive services to the homeless, HIV prevention, and assistance to families of uninsured children applying for health insurance services. Online registration here on Active is highly encouraged, but registration forms are also available at Finish Strong Sports. There will also be race day registration at the event, but we ask that you get there 30 to 45 minutes early to register.
