This is a gentle introduction to open water swimming.

Additional Information
What makes a Fearless Swimming Class unique?
If the swim is your weakest triathlon skill, this class is for you especially if you have fear issues in open water. The workshop will focus heavily on skill, equipment, strategies and techniques to keep you calm during triathlon swims. Instruction will be as much on land as it is in the water. Participants will be able to demonstrate competence in the Fearless Swimming Skillset at the end of class. No one will be left behind!
What is included in the fee?
90 min lecture on anxiety management and open water skills followed by 90 min of water work where athletes will learn the Fearless Swimming Skillset and do an optional 500M swim. Neoprene and latex swim caps are included. Optional video swim technique analysis can be added for $40. A signed copy of Fearless Swimming book is $20.
How well do I have to swim?
You should be able to swim 500M in a pool without difficulty. If you can't you should attend a Freestyle Improvement Workshop or get some lessons before you do this class. The last thing you need is to be struggling in the water as you are trying to overcome your anxiety.
What equipment do I need?
A wetsuit is mandatory. The water will be chilly and we can't teach you if you are freezing to death! You will receive a neoprene cap and A wetsuit will be provided for you to use if you need one. Consider also bringing a booties and gloves for added warmth.
What if I want more work on swimming technique?
We offer a 2-day Total Immersion-based workshop each month in Irvine. Please see our website for upcoming classes. It is best to polish your technique in the pool before getting into open water.
What about the wetsuits?
Wetsuits are mandatory for the class. If you need a rental wetsuit, you must register by Thursday March 8 at 11AM. If you register after that, we can not get you a wetsuit.
What is the optional video analysis?
Participants may wish to have a video analysis of their swimming technique in open water. The video will have written annotations and suggestions for correcting technique errors.
What if I sign-up but can't attend the class?
There are no refunds but we will issue a raincheck for a future class.
