The Pilot Club of Greater Gainesville and the Southern Scholarship Foundation are partnering for the "Education for Life" 5K. Saturday Feb. 4th 2011. The proceeds will support rent-free housing scholarships for college students across the state. Along with local community projects focused on brain related disorders and disabilities.

The Pilot Club of Greater Gainesville's present projects that benefit from money we raise include Brainminder's a public service campaign for multi-level education programs for brain injury prevention. Alzheimer's Day Care (Alz' Place) provides financial assistance at Alz' Place and supports the Alzheimer's Association Walk. For many years Pilots have raised money and received matching funding grants to benefit hearing-impaired children at Norton Elementary School, and the Developmentally Challenged at Sidney Lanier School. We also support Project Lifesaver, which allows the Alachua County Sheriff's Department to reach more vulnerable citizens in need.

Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF) provides rent-free housing to students who demonstrate outstanding academic merit and significant financial need at University of Florida, Florida A&M University, Gulf Coast University and Florida State University. SSF currently operates 25 scholarship houses for 413 students across the four campuses, providing qualified students with rent-free housing during their four years of college.

Many of the students living in an SSF scholarship house are first-generation college students or might not have the financial means to move away from home to go to college.

We we would like to Thank you for your participation and support.
