Last Year
In 2011 almost 300 runners and walkers egistered for this event which is held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Originally the race scheduled on the last Saturday in August as it is now, but a hurricane force the race to be moved to November. Ryan Kaat took top honors in 16:19 – a course record for the event. Rebecca Boggs won the women’s competition in 19:28. Anna Clinton holds the women’s course mark of 18:56 set in 2009.
Starting Times
The mile run begins at 8 am, and the 5K starts at 8:30 am. Both race are timed with the ChampionChip.
Entry Fees
The entry fees are $20 for the 5K and $15 for the mile. After August 19, both fees increase by $5.
Awards
In both races awards will be presented to the top three women overall, to the top three men overall, and to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups: Mile (both sexes): 8-under, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 5K (both sexes): 14-under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-over.
Late Registration/Packet Pickup
Race packets can be picked up and late entrants can register at Capital RunWalk in Cameron Village on Thursday, August 23, from 5-7 pm or on race day at the WakeMed Soccer Park beginning at 7 am.
Benefitting Charity
Proceeds from the race will benefit Birthchoice, a pregnancy help medical clinic that has been serving the women of Wake County and the surrounding counties for over 40 years. For more information on Birthchoice, go to www.birthchoicewake.org
