Welcome to the Lake County Recreation Department's "Lap-The-lake 50" Cycling Race/Ride. At 10,200 feet of elevation this event could very well be the highest 50-mile cycling race in Colorado if not the United States. Enjoy the majestic Sawatch Mountain Range scenery with the two highest peaks in Colorado as a backdrop and prove you have the stamina and endurance to compete in one of the Rocky Mountain's ultimate cycling races. Do you have what it takes? This event is becoming one of the premier road bike races in Colorado because of its scenic beauty, breathtaking course, challenging conditions and meticulous organization. All ability levels are welcome! The Course: This challenging race consists of one lap (22 miles) or three laps (50 miles) around the scenic Turquoise Lake paved road. The course is made up of demanding ascents and challenging descents while negotiating non-stop turns. The course elevation ranges from 9,650 to 10,800 feet. Along the entire course you will experience exhilarating views of beautiful Turquoise Lake, as well as forests of blue spruce, aspen, and lodge pole pine. The course will be well supervised with race personnel; however, it will be open to automobile traffic. Goodies: You can expect close parking, great race music, plenty to eat and drink, a race goody bag, awesome handcrafted awards unique to Leadville and exclusive Special Edition Melanzana Gear. Divisions & Awards: Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top finisher in each 10-year age group for the 50-mile division. The top two overall male and female finishers for the 22-mile division will receive an award as well as the top finisher in each 10-year age group. Each participant’s age for awards will be determined by their age on December 31, 2012. All participants will be eligible for an awesome drawing after the race. Times & Directions: The race begins at 9am on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 at the Lake County Swimming Pool. Registration and packet pick-up begins at 7am. From I-70, take the Copper Mountain exit. Drive south on Highway 91 to Leadville (28 miles). Highway 91 becomes Harrison Avenue in Leadville. Turn right on 6th St. and drive to 1000 W. 6th St. The Lake County Swimming Pool (which is attached to the Lake County Intermediate School) will be on your right.
