The Slug is Back! Slug Gulch, that is, and the other classic Sierra Century routes in Amador/El Dorado Counties. Join us for a beautiful and challenging ride. The Sacramento Wheelmen are offering a metric, century or double century route.
This year's Sierra Century will offer three classic routes all start/end at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth:
- The
Metric (65 miles, 4500 ft. elevation gain) goes to Ione, Sutter Creek,
Volcano, and Fiddletown.
- The
Century (102 miles, 7400 ft. elevation gain) follows the Metric route
to Fiddletown and up Slug Gulch.
- The
Double Metric (120 miles, 10,000 ft. elevation gain) follows the
Century route to the top of Slug Gulch and adds an extra loop with
additional
climbing before returning to the Fairgrounds.
The
ride will be held rain or shine.

Parking:
Plenty
of free parking at the Amador
County Fairgrounds. Once at the Fairgrounds, follow the signs and/or
volunteer
flaggers.

Registration
Packets:You can pick up
your registration packet at the Fairgrounds, Pokerville Hall, on
Friday, June
15, 2012 from 4:00-7:30 PM. Saturday, the day of the ride, registration
is open
from 6:00-9:00 AM.
Continental
breakfast:
Breakfast
will be available during
the morning registration.
Start
Times:
Double
Metric and Century riders
need to be on the course by 7:00 AM. Double Metric riders must leave
the Indian
Diggings School/Omo Ranch Rest Stop, at the top of Slug Gulch, by 2:00
PM. Late
Double Metric riders will be redirected to Century course.
The
first rest stop in Ione at
Howard Park officially opens at 7:00 AM. Volunteers will be setting up
as early
as 6:00 AM.
Post-Ride
Meal:
The
post-ride meal will be served
starting at 12 Noon and closing at 6:00 PM.
Event
Closes: The Sierra Century
event ends at 6:00 PM
Rules of the Road:
SHARE
THE ROAD!
We are guests of Amador and El Dorado Counties. Our ride
takes place on rural roads, some with limited shoulder area and, though
lightly
traveled, are shared with motorists. Do
not obstruct the flow of traffic,
ride
single file, stop at all stop signs, and obey the rules of the road.
CHP will
be monitoring the roadways for your safety and have been encouraged to
cite
violators. This is a ride and not a race!
ANSI
or Snell approved helmets are mandatory. You
should carry a spare tube, patch kit, tire pump and identification.
Accommodations:
On
the fairgrounds:
Tent
Camping: The Amador County Fairgrounds provides plenty of space for
tent
camping. Tent camping is $25, per night, (2-person max.). Reservations
can be
made during event registration
RV
Parking: The Amador County Fairgrounds has RV parking with water and
electrical
hookup available for $30, per night. Reservations can be made during
event
registration.
Dump
station is available for $5.
There
are a limited number of showers at various locations at the
Fairgrounds. (Map
for locations.)
Far
Horizons 49er Village and RV
Resort:
49er
Village is next door to the Fairgrounds in Plymouth. A 10% discount for
parking

Hotels/B&Bs/etc.:
There
are
a variety of hotels, B&Bs, cottages in the nearby area. For a

Shenandoah Inn in Plymouth is full.
Merchandise:
Sierra Century jerseys are
available for purchase when you register for the
ride, and on the day of the ride. Don't be disappointed; register and
order
early for the best size availability. We will also be selling our
previous
years' Sierra Century merchandise at discounted prices during the day
of the
ride at the Merchandise Table (limited quantities are available).
