Adam Howitt, Co-Founder of WalkJogRun
Adam grew up in Stockport, England playing rugby, tennis and football but never ran further than he was chased, with the exception of a single 10k race with the rugby team. In 2000, at the age of 25, he left the UK to live and work in Chicago. A year and a half later he was on the move again to Atlanta where he spent three years and met his wife.
In 2002 he was talked into training for the Peachtree 10k and, being a nerd, needed to know how far he was running so he built WalkJogRun to save gas driving around the neighborhood to measure it. He moved back to Chicago in 2004 and began working with Jeff. In 2005 Adam and Jeff rebuilt the site with Google Maps and the site as you know it was born. Adam continued running after the Peachtree 10k and finished his first marathon in San Francisco in 2006.
WalkJogRun.net has been a passion for Adam, developed in his spare time, funded out of pocket. The majority of what you see on the site today was something Adam needed to help his training. Between February 2009 and May 2009 Adam spent 200 hours working late nights and weekends building the iPhone application and, with the help of Jeff, finally released the app on May 5th.
Since the creation of the site 8 years ago Adam has logged over 5,800 miles, finished seven half marathons, seven full marathons and hopes to qualify for Boston before his PR gets grandfathered in by getting older!
